Chapter 22 by GenocideHeart

What happens next?

You trek through the night

The lizardman's words disturb you. You'd hate to think that he was right, but what would it gain by lying to you? A sense of urgency rises in you, a need to confirm for yourself whether the Druids are truly exterminated or not.

You and Tri'lanna search the campground and the bodies, looking for useful things to take. Most of the armor that the orcs were wearing is either too small or too damaged to be of any use to you, but you find a shirt of chainmail that's about the right size for you. The weapons are all useless for you, of inferior quality and ineffective for your large build. Tri'lanna on the other hand finds a pair of leather greaves to wear. Your search also rewards you with some flint, some iron rations that one of the orcs was apparently hiding from the others, and finally a curious parchment.

The paper is a map of the Isle of the Seven Stones, with several red Xs marked all over the map. Their meaning is indecipherable at the moment and you have more pressing issues, so you roll up the map and stuff it in your bag for later analysis .

Lastly, you walk towards the campfire and fashion a few rudimentary torches. You don't plan on stopping until you reach the druids, so it's imperative that you have some light during the night. By the time you finish making the torches it is completely dark out, and you immediately set two ablaze. The smoke pluming from the head of the torch makes you cough, but you pass one of the torches to Tri'lanna, who is waiting by your side.

Without wasting any more time, you trek eastwards to find the druids. Or what's left of them.

With only the bare light of the torches, the going is slow but Tri'lanna's excellent pathfinding skills keep you going at a steady pace and you rarely have to backtrack. You only stop to briefly rest a few times during the trek and eat the iron rations while on the move. You push forward at a rough speed, but Tri'lanna doesn't complain the entire time. She actually stays much closer to you during the night, and doesn't fan out to forage for supplies. Winding your way over ridges and crags, the hard stone ground slowly transitions back to loam.

At the sight of the dawning sun, you think you finally reach your destination. In front of you stretches out a small valley, completely covered in forest. It is like looking at a sea of green, and you need to stare and blink for a moment to comprehend the picture. You have never seen so many trees so bunched together and so all-encompassing before, and you can understand why Druids would make their home here. You look outward to the farther ends of the valley and, to your dismay, your fears come into realization. There, near the center of the forest, is a cloud of black smoke is rising up, expanding and shrouding the entire valley.

The druids' forest is burning.

What do you do?
