Chapter 13 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

Who do you think is the sleeper agent?

You think Tschau is the sleeper agent!

You hated to cast suspicion already, but you told Goodbye your thoughts: it was most likely Tschau. After all... whoever had killed the other Ciao's had done it in an undetectable way, such that no one had a culprit to attach to either case. Who better to do that than the Goodbye Girls' stealth expert? Furthermore, among the Goodbye Girls, she seemed like the one who had the least attachments to the others... Her cold nature made it easy to imagine her icing those who were supposed to be her allies.

"Ts-Tschau? I was really hoping you wouldn't say it was her..." Goodbye bit her lip and adjusted her glasses again, allowing you to briefly see her nervous eyes behind the shine of their thick lenses. "Why do you say it's her, though?"

You told Goodbye everything you could think of...{if Tschau's Code > 999}For starters, one had to think about her so-called "code of justice." It preached perfect justice, right? Killing those who opposed it and all. If those Ciaos had somehow crossed her code, she would probably kill them, whether they were officially allies or enemies. By this logic, she didn't even need to be an embedded enemy agent in order to be the killer. The situation could be far simpler than either of you had realized.{endif}{if Tschau's History}

The most troublesome element was Tschau's history as a victim of the CEDIT Russia incident. You didn't know all of the details yet, but based on what Dr. Goldstein had told you, she'd been part of an illegal program, installing cybernetic enhancements in captive subjects. It wasn't too far a leap to think that they could have done something more than just body modifications... what if her mind had been altered as well, or she'd been fitted with remote control components? She could then be forced to act against her allies without even remembering it. She'd practically be a robot, under control by outside forces and waiting for a command...{endif}{if Tschau Encounter > 999}

Still yet, there was one more detail you hadn't mentioned yet... the camgirl issue. Tschau apparently had a habit of broadcasting to the public while on assignment. Even besides that being reckless endangerment of the secrecy of your missions, didn't that seem pretty suspicious? You encouraged Goodbye to think about the timing... She could even be sending coded messages to enemy forces. Your boss was speechless for a moment, then blinked with a red face and a dumb frown. "A cam-girl? She does that?" You sighed at your boss's slowness on the uptake and tendency to focus on the wrong details...{endif}

"Well, you've given me a lot to think about. You hate to think about someone as young as her being the traitor- she was just a young adult when she joined the program- but that lack of time in CEDIT is also a pretty good reason to suspect she could be the sleeper agent. I'll get our guys on it." Perhaps Goodbye had something of a maternal instinct? It didn't seem like she was thrilled about your choice. "H-Hey, don't worry about her, Ciao. We're just going to increase surveillance, is all! I'm glad you came forward with your suspicion."

What comes next?
