How is your ride?
You find a damsel in distress
As you step into the garage you see a young woman kicking the tires of a British sports car, swearing as she does.
"Stupid car! Stupid stupid stupid fucking car!" she snarls as she kicks it again. She looks vaguely familiar, and you assume she's a student although she's dressed in tight jeans and a silky looking top rather than the standard uniform. She sees you looking at her, and she flushes with embarrassment at having her tantrum witnessed.
"Sorry Dean, it's this stupid car! It won't start! Again! It's always doing this."
You give her a neutral smile, really not wanting to involve yourself in her troubles, and wanting even less to spend time under the hood of a car. The gentleman in you kicks in, however, and you step towards her.
"I can take a look if you want. I'm not much of a mechanic, but let's see if we can get you going."
"Can you?" she cries happily. "That would be so great! I'm supposed to meet my friends in town and they've already gone on ahead. I called them but those bitches...excuse me Dean....they said they couldn't come back to help me. And you can't get a cab in this town in less than a week. It would be so great if you could get it going." She puts one hand on your arm as she appeals to you, cocking her pretty head on one side to let her wavy brunette hair frame her face.
"Let's see what we can do Miss..."
"Danton, Cindy Danton," she says, holding out her hand. "Pleased to meet you Dean Hawkfeather. That was so fun when you cut off Margot's tie this morning! The look on her face!" she laughs, shaking her head at the memory.
"Let's see if we can get you going Miss Danton," you say, declining to comment on your tie removal incident. You wedge yourself into the low slung car, and turn the ignition key. There's a click, but nothing else. You notice that the light switch is on, and when you try to turn on the radio there's no response.
"I think you may have left your lights on Miss Danton. The battery is probably dead. It's not hard to fix but it would require someone with jumper cables and a car. Unfortunately I don't have either."
"Oh...damn....I've done that before. Left the lights on I mean....Damn...stupid car. It should beep or something to tell me I've left the lights on shouldn't it? It never does. And now I'm stuck." She pushes her lip out, pouting prettily as she puts her fists on her hip.
"I don't know what to tell you Miss Danton. The good news is it's probably an easy fix. If you know someone on campus with a car and jumper cables we can get you going right away."
"I don't. I don't even know what...jumper cables? I don't know what they are? And I really wanted to meet my friends. They're such bit...I mean its so annoying they won't come pick me up." She gives you a lingering look before speaking again. "I don't suppose you're going to town are you Dean? If you are you could give me a ride, and I'd be ever so grateful."
