Do you try to quickly explain the situation?
You explain as best as you can
"She doesn't actually live in this house, I do."
"What?"
"I moved in, she's only briefly staying here, and she plans to move out."
"Oh, why is she staying?"
"Well... times are tight for her, she just needed a place to crash while she looks for a job."
"Well if she wants a job, she can work for me!"
"...wha?" You stare, open mouthed.
"I own lumber company downtown. We're hiring new assistants."
"Well, I think she's got a good opportunity, I mean we're so close I'm not sure if... experience mightn't be...."
"Look, just tell her: 9:30am, tomorrow morning. Sit an interview, we'll see what happens."
"She's not going to be ready. I don't think..."
"Look, if she doesn't show up, that's her decision. I can make time for her if she does, and if she doesn't I've other stuff I can do."
You breath a bit easier, "Well, I guess I can tell her."
"Okay, got the time?"
"9:30am tomorrow," and then you read out the address he gives you.
"Glad that's settled, talk soon." And he hangs up.
How did that happen? It started with a neighbourly exchange and it ended up with a job interview for someone who's not going to show up.
You had enough of this, it was late and you just wanted to wrap up this weird day.
