Chapter 25 by Manbear Manbear

Does it end like this?

You are saved

Blinding light fills the chamber. A noonday sun in the middle of the summer could be no brighter than this light that fills the room; it burns your eyes, blinding you painfully but judging by the screams of pain from your two demonic lovers the effect of the artificial sunlight is far worse on them. The smell of burning flesh fills your nostrils as your sight slowly returns, but nothing prepares you for the gruesome sight before you. The two temptresses are squirming on the stone floor like worms on a heated rocks, and as your sight returns you see the skin of the two melting like wax exposing their flesh and bones underneath. Standing like a Goddess in the doorway to the great room is Cassia holding a brilliant light in her upraised fist. The leather armor that she had been wearing when you left her was gone and the white padding she wore underneath is torn in several places exposing her left shoulder and bare breast like an Amazon, but she doesn't even seem to notice as she chants words of power.

The light fades slowly and the searing of flesh lessons, but the two demons have had enough and are scurrying like roaches for the shadows. Embarrassed as much by what you had done as your nakedness, you pull up your leggings all too the aware of the difference between your weakness and Cassia's obvious strength. There is no sign of T'roth, the largest of the three monsters, but you have no doubt that he too was either destroyed or cowering in fear, but even as you relax, Cassia collapses and the room is plunged into absolute darkness.

It takes you far too long to find the bluestone you had earlier dropped but when you have it again in your hand the cool light fills the chamber, and you move immediately to Cassia's fallen body.

Her chest rises and falls slowly in the cool dark room, and with a determined effort you pull her torn tunic back in place to cover her exposed flesh. She is **** but alive, her lips were bruised and there were nasty scratches where her assailant's claws had torn the clothing from her torso but other than that she was unharmed - none of the injuries seem sufficient to have caused her collapse, undoubtedly it was the stress of the miracle of light that caused her to pass out.

The next ten minutes pass in a blur as you first grab the supplies and Cassia's armor from the small entry room and drag them back to her prone form, then following the footprints in the dust left by the demons you find another of the heavy metal doors and seal it. Locking yourselves into this set of rooms seems like the safest thing to do for now, and after checking on Cassia one more time, you complete the survey of the suite of rooms. All too clearly, now that it no longer matters, you remember Cassia warning you of the arcane nature of the old inhabitants of the city and their ability to ensnare their victims with illusions. "Gods forgive me!" You murmur quietly into the darkness that surrounds you, "what have I done?" Cassia is still unresponsive on the stone floor at your feet, and you take the time to pull together the lacings of her padded top. A part of you (the young male part) hates securing her perfect breast from your sight, but after the young cleric's sacrifice, to do anything else would have been a shameful sin.

During the course of inspecting the abandoned collection of rooms, you did find something that you had yet to see in the old subterranean city. Every other object made of wood had either been reduced to dust or was so rotted that at the slightest touch it crumbled into fragments. However, along one of the walls of this largest chamber you find a gleaming wooden door. The paneling looks as pristine as the day it was made, except for the round shape of the portal, it might have been a doorway in your master's country estate. There isn't even a speck of dust on the oiled wooden door and the brass knob at its center is polished so perfectly that you can see your reflection in its surface.

You are safe here in these rooms for now, but the sight of Cassia stretched **** on the stone floor worries you almost as much as the knowledge that the fleeing demons might be gathering with their friends just outside the two sealed doors of this suite of rooms. Of course, you admit to yourself angrily, there is no reason to believe that there is anything better on the far side of the enchanted wooden portal - or that the door would open even if you chopped at it for hours with your excavating tool.

Do you open the door now, or wait until Cassia regains consciousness.
