You Saved the Day...

When the scene returned, little you shot the bad guy in the kneecap! He howled in pain, releasing Andrea from his grip and making the other guy look at you fearfully. "Let my sister go!" You were feeling more brave now, aiming the gun at him. He went for the crowbar, but you shot at it and made the thug retract his hand as the metal hook scraped and clattered further down the dark alley. Some bystanders finally called the police, as J'onn witnessed, and then continued watching how the guy pulled Mary off of him, setting her on the ground.

"Easy, buddy. Let's not do anything hasty," he tried reasoning.

"Beat it!" you yelled. And he scrambled right out of there. But you were still feeling so upset about what had just happened, throwing the gun as far as you could throw it, near the crowbar. And you walked quickly behind the wounded thug as Andrea comforted her daughter, kicking him repeatedly as groaned. All the while, you chanted angrily, "Don't. Hurt. My. Family! Don't. Hurt. My. Family!"

Mary watched in surprise, getting a little scared of you as she watched it all, but as she and your mother kept watch, you were getting choked up as you let out all your pent-up feelings. Andrea walked to you quickly, raising her voice over yours. "George. George! George...!" She hugged you from behind, holding you close. "He's beaten..." she cooed softly. But you couldn't help but sob uncontrollably as the police sirens came closer and closer to you. Mary walked slowly to you and your mom, feeling her legs had gotten bloody from having her innocence taken away, and hugged you tightly as your cries got softer bit by bit.

"My hero..." she sobbed softly. The police came and helped the family as J'onn watched with a strange feeling of pride.

As the memory faded into darkness, J'onn closed his eyes as he talked to himself and you. "Such loss. Such suffering..." He opened his eyes and looked straight ahead. "And yet, when things were at their darkest, you decided to be a hero for those in need. Even if you felt scared, enraged. Be the hero you were then: help yourself now." The dirt path continued out of the forest, and into a city enveloped in flames.
