Walking out from the forest, the monastery rose up before them. It was a grand place, giant walls surrounding the town, but you could see that main castle and chapel well over it. They opened the giant gates, and the big town of Garreg Mach opened up for Byleth. She had never seen so many people in one place before, markets selling all kinds of goods, children running around playing, knights patrolling. This was a whole different life than she ever could imagine.

As they walked up to the main buildings, Jeralt looked up at a balcony. Following his gaze, Byleth saw a beautiful woman looking down at them. She had green hair and a golden headpiece that looked befitting of a queen.

"....."

"Get the prisoner to the prison cells, the archbishop will decide his fate." Alois ordered the knights. Byleth saw them drag the bandit away, and she could feel her attachement to him fade. She hoped this was the last she would see of him.

"As for you two," Alois turned around to face Jeralt and Byleth. "I will get you set up in your rooms! Jeralt, you will live in the captains quarters, and you will have a room among the students." he smiled at them both. "I can't believe the old captain of the knights is back, and with his daughter as well! Well what are you waiting for? Grab your luggage and we will be of! The archbishop wants to talk with you both later."

Doing as he said, Byleth grabbed her belongings and followed him.

A few hours later, Byleth and Jeralt had an attendance with the archbishop. In the throne room, they met with her and another man.

"Thank you for your patience. My name is Seteth. I am an advisor to the archbishop."

"It has been a long time, Jeralt. I wonder... was it the will of the goddess that we have another chance meeting like this?" the archbishop said. She had a very soothing voice, it was like she could put one to sleep with her voice alone.

after a long while of formalities between Rhea and Jeralt, a topic was brought up.

"I see that the miracle of fatherhood has blessed you. This daughter of yours seem strong, both in spirit and in mind. She would be a great asset for us."

"As a knight?" Jeralt asked.

"No, someone with her experience would be a great asset to our team of professors. It just happens that we are one short." Rhea said calmly.

"You want me to teach?" Byleth asked in surprise.

"Don't worry my child, it will all come natural to you, it is the will of the goddess." Rhea reassured her. "You will have to pick a house to teach, but don't worry. You can get to know your students before you choose. I'll give you until the end of the week."

"As for the bandit leader..." Rhea continued "I have decided to let him join the knights."

"It seems that he has more promise than I imagined." Rhea sighed. "He, too, is very experienced in battle, and while he doesn't have the intelligence to teach, he has the brawn to be a soldier." Byleth swore that Rhea looked away when she said 'brawn'. It couldn't be possible. Had he even swayed the archbishop?

"He was, more decisive and persuasive than I thought he would be..." Rhea said "And it seems like he actually has a crest! The goddess really works in strange ways..."

This couldn't be happening. She thought that it was all over. How come he was still alive, and was to be knighted too? Byleth was now sweating hard.

"My child, is everything alright?" Rhea asked Byleth. "Why are you smiling so much?"

"Huh?" Byleth returned to the world of reality. She put her hands in her face and felt that she was really warm.

"Nevertheless, I hope you will make a wise decision of which house you will teach."
