Chapter 8 by ldnldn
Does Elena come up with a plan?
Yes, scrounge the sets for a wardrobe.
From the sounds of the guard’s radio, it seemed like security was going to be lax in the near future. As much as she’d like to wait in her box until the end of civilization, now was the best time to act. She needed to find something to cover herself and then make her way to the laundry room to retrieve her stuff (or at least, steal someone else’s clothes).
She remembered that the laundry room was near the east wall of the complex, all she had to do find it was follow the sun. She wouldn’t even need her glasses to read the stupid maps. But first, she would foray into the nearby buildings to look for anything to help her retain a shred of modesty on the long way there.
Elena popped out of her box and entered the large building to the right of her. She arrived into a small set where a sharply dressed old man and half a dozen contestants surrounded a giant wheel that was in front of a recording crew. They seemed to be filming a game show of some kind. The whole room, save the stage, was quite dark; nobody noticed or paid attention to the naked woman. Elena spotted some large paper squares stacked on the floor and tiptoed to pick one. She held the paperboard up with both hands, it was large enough to conceal her body from her shoulders to her knees. Elena exhaled in relief, she finally caught a lucky break! Now, if she could twist the paper to also somehow cover her backside…
“…And now let’s spin the wheel of luck! …that wasn’t it. Let’s roll the circle of fortune! Damn, it’s not that one either.” The host’s eyes scanned the room searching for something. He squinted hard at Elena’s direction. “Could someone shine a light on the cue card girl? I can’t read a thing.” In response, a spotlight was shined on Elena. The brunette squealed and bent her body as much as she could behind the paper. Since her back was against the wall and the card was concealing her torso, no one seemed to notice her lack of clothing, at least for the time being.
“Thank you. Now, let’s spin the circle of adventure and see which ordeal our contestants must endure to win the prized...” The host stopped midsentence and looked at Elena’s eyes. Since the brunette remained immobile, he made a circle in the air with his index finger. “Girl, turn the card around. The line continues on the other side.”
Elena knew that if she complied, everyone might get a glimpse of her …private areas. It was a risk that she simply wouldn’t take. “N-no it doesn’t. It’s blank!” she bluffed.
“No it’s not! Listen here, I didn’t slave all night making the cards for this stupid pilot just so a lazy intern badmouths my work,” exclaimed a middle aged blonde that was stomping her way to the brunette. She wrangled the card away from Elena and held it up in the air to show it to the stage. There was an audible gasp from everyone else in the room as they caught a glimpse of the unclothed assistant’s body, who wasted no time in darting out of the set through the nearby door.
The brunette locked the door behind her and latched it shut. Why did she kept getting spotted!? Jay made sneaking look so easy in the films. She now found herself on an empty corridor that ran through the backstage of numerous sets. Near the end of the hallway, right besides an open door, was a cart containing an assortment of medieval props. Something useful was bound to be there. Elena creeped down the hallway, her feet softly stepping on the cold tiles below, her arms hugging her chest to provide some modicum of reassurance. She could hear the sounds of different shows being filmed behind each door she passed. Why did the studio build so many contiguous sets like that? It didn’t seem smart.
She arrived at the cart, it carried a wide array of medieval weaponry. Elena grabbed two shields and held them up with each hand, using them to conceal her front and back. They were quite heavy, but they did the trick. Curious as to what they were filming with the arsenal, the brunette peeked inside.
She couldn’t see much into the set from her vantage point as her vision was obscured by a great stone triangle that towered in front of her. It was a big structure made of rocks that looked haphazardly cobbled together. The whole triangle was as tall as two persons stacked upon one another, at the top she could see the back of a stone chair and at the sides hung a multitude of colored cloths. She instantly recognized the structure, of course. She didn’t even need her glasses to identify the eleven iconic flags that hung at the sides of the Triangle Throne from their hit fantasy series “The Lord of Thrones”.
Wait, eleven flags? There should be only ten! There were two repeated flags from the Duchy of Yellowia hanging in there. The uppermost left one shouldn’t be there at all! What an egregious production error. Such a horrible continuity mistake could ruin the whole episode. Didn’t the producers care about being faithful to the books? Elena scoffed in her mind. Obviously not, if the last season was any indication.
Does Elena try to fix the egregious error?
