Worse than expected, children showing off for daddy

On Lex's third and final trip between the illusion barrier and his pocket kingdom, he noticed something rather bizarre. The sky was red and dark, almost like someone had burnt the very sky itself. Bianca and Divi had headed to the forest whereas Gloria and Sazla had gone to the coast. This left him with Sofia and his four children. Luckily, he could keep a visual tab on everyone's location and status by using his mini-map and glancing at their health and mana bars. Meanwhile, his children were looking over the different buildings. Interestingly, Dempsey and Fauve were interested in the pink house that they were next to.

Dempsey's eyes widened. "This house is really pretty." Fauve nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I wonder who lives here." Lex chuckled. "I believe Diniel and Chasan chose to live there." Dempsey and Fauve looked to one another before nodding. "They sound like our kind of people. May we meet them after we're done? Pretty please?" Torral tilted her head slightly. "There is much to explore, but where do we start daddy?" Ziksa was looking off into the distance. It was clear that something had caught her attention. "I don't know what's over there, but there is a lot of movement in this direction."

Sofia's expression changed to slight worry when she looked to Lex. "What should we do?" Lex's children looked to him as well. Each had a different expression relevant to their earlier statements and inquiries. He looked toward the ocean first before looking in the direction Ziksa had been looking towards. "First we need to get to our objective. We'll talk about mingling after." He looked to Sofia. "Sofia, I'll need you by my side." He looked to Fauve and Ziksa. "I'll need you two to cover the rear. If you see anything let me or your Aunt Sofia know right away." Fauve and Ziksa nodded at the same time.

Lex looked to Dempsey and Torral next. "I'll need you two to watch the sides." Torral and Dempsey nodded. Lex looked to his mini-map and noticed three markers. One pointed to the beach near the dock, another was in the middle of the forest, and the last one was near where Ziksa had been looking. He took a look around and realized that the forest had become so much larger than it had been previously. In fact, it covered about half of the area he had surveyed on his first trip. Lysossia must have been successful in recruiting other druids to the area.

Lex smiled before looking to Sofia and his children. "Follow me. We have to secure the supply lines." His children cheered as did his sister. He used this moment to use the mental command. 'Switch to Equipment Set Slots 1.' This switched his Equipment Set Slots 1 with his Equipment Slots. After a few seconds, he realized he wasn't using his other title. What was it again? Oh, right! He grinned and used the mental command. 'Equip title, Battle Commander.'

Fauve and Torral took immediate notice of Lex's new glasses, Daddy's Spectacles. Torral smiled. "I like the glasses daddy. They look nice on you." Fauve started to blush. "Mm, kind of hot too." Lex chuckles. "Thanks girls." Sofia bit her bottom lip, but didn't say anything. After ten minutes of walking, they arrived at the edge of the forest near a series of caves. Each cave was about fifty yards apart from one another and had at least one mining cart near their entrance. There were three to four gray dwarves taking minerals from those carts. Lex lifted a hand, signaling his family to stop. He made a gestured to be quiet while moving closer to the trees. As his family moved behind him, he used Observe on those gray dwarves.

Lex was a little surprised to see how low the health was for the wizard and cleric, but knew from experience in video games that they likely had powerful tricks up their sleeves. Not to mention that fighter would make it hell to get close to either of them. Sofia poked his shoulder. "So what's the plan?" When he looked to her, her hair had curled up into multiple question marks. It looked rather cute, making him smile. "I am going to cast a spell on their cleric to distract her. That is when I plan to rush out and attack the wizard. He and the fighter will attack me. When they do, I want you all to come out as well. Any questions?"

Sofia and the children shook their heads. Lex motioned for them to follow him. He walked with them in tow behind the trees to make it easier to hide their presence. When they reached the location, he tried casting the spell Shadowy Molestation. Sadly, it failed with a small pop up that read, 'Target is too far away.'. "Fuck. I forgot it had a short range." He said softly before looking to Sofia and his children. "You know what. I'm going to try a different spell to kill the wizard. When they are in range, attack the woman of the group."

Lex didn't even check to see if they heard him before casting Shadow Spike. - 25 Hp, - 50 Mp This launched a dark energy spike toward the wizard, a hum was heard as it whizzed through the air. The wizard turned, lifting his hands as the ground beneath him started to glow. Right before the Shadowy Spike hit, a spell was released from the wizard, canceling it out. Lex blinked several times. "Well that's unfair.." During this time, the fighter and cleric started to rush toward him. "Well, this works out. Attack her when she gets close enough. I'll fight the fighter when he arrives."

However, before Lex could move. A stream of fire launched at him, hitting him three times for 150 damage each. 150 x 3 = 450 damage Luckily, he managed to lift up his shield in time and bounced that beam at the cleric, cutting her in half before she could even reach him. 36 xp, $.72 She didn't even have time to scream as her body fell to the floor. When this happened, something unexpected occurred, his children gained three levels, increasing their level from 1 to 4. Two notification appeared in the center of his view.

Lex was a little surprised by those notifications, but what was even more surprising was when Dempsey and Fauve ran out from the trees and straight at the Duergar. Dempsey was headed straight for the fighter whereas Fauve was running at the wizard. They had a strange look of confidence on their faces. Lex didn't have time to think as he ran out there after them. Sofia, Ziksa, and Torral were right behind him. Although he was much faster than they were, Dempsey had managed to get to the fighter and did something unexpected. He turned around and slapped the fighter with his tail, narrowly avoiding being hit by the fighter's mace.

Before the fighter could strike again, Dempsey used the fighter's momentum to steal the mace and smashed in the fighter's jaw, knocking him out cold. Seconds later, he struck the final blow. At the same time, Fauve rushed to the wizard's side as he was charging up another spell. Lex threw his shield to Fauve. "Catch it!" Fauve turned and caught it right as the wizard fired a blast at her. She managed to reflect it, sending it toward the ground. She grinned while getting in close, taking something from the wizard's pocket and jabbed it into his throat. An explosion was heard, resulting in the wizard falling over dead. 18 + 18 = 36 xp, 36 + 36 = $.72 When this happened, his children gained another two levels, increasing their level from 4 to 6. Two more notifications appeared in the center of Lex's view.

Experience has increased from 4,228/4,600 to 4,264/4,600.

Money has increased from $39,584.20 to $39,584.92.

Dempsey has obtained the class: Shiny Knight and the title: Misleading Knight.

Fauve has obtained the class: Arcane Trickster and the title: Proficient Opportunist.

Lex was quite surprised by what he just saw. His children had surpassed his expectations. In fact, they were blown out of the water. It truly drove the point home that his children were all grown up. He lowered his head slightly and chuckled. Sofia, Ziksa, and Torral stopped near Lex while Dempsey and Fauve returned to them. Dempsey and Fauve looked both pumped and pleased with themselves. When they were close enough, Lex wrapped his arms around them and pulled them into a tight hug. "You both scared me, but I'm glad you are both safe."

After releasing them from that hug, Lex took his shield back from Fauve before kissing their foreheads. "You did a fine job, but think a bit more ahead. Okay?" Fauve nodded slightly. "Yes, daddy..." Lex looked to Dempsey. "You too." Dempsey nodded as well. "Of course, daddy." Lex felt this required a new strategy. His children were obviously capable, but how should he use this to their advantage? Should he have them work together to take down the next group while he and Sofia took on another group? Or continue like this and simply overwhelm their foes? (Alternate options are welcome.)
