Chapter 6 by Mossrite Mossrite

What's next?

Work, and a Recruited Cultist

A Thursday evening wouldn't normally be all that busy, but with summer starting a lot of students have more free time to spend. As such, the roller rink was fairly full of young couples and friend groups.

Taking up her post at the boot rentals, Lillian struck up a conversation with her coworker, Zach. During a lull in rentals, she decided to tell him about her cult idea.

"Hey, Zach. I'm starting up a little personal belief system and I think you'll like it." He turns to face her, and Lillian's eyes rise to his dark cherry dyed hair. "It's exclusive to people that dye their hair, but really it's just about self-acceptance and not letting society tell you what to do."

Zach smirks at his coworker. "Sounds fun. Count me in. Y'all do anything in specific? Like a church service or ritual sacrifice or anything?"

"Nothing yet, I'll probably set up a regular meeting. I'll send you the info and beliefs as-written when I get home. We're really just starting, right now it's just us and my roommate, so it'll be evolving as I decide how to do this." The two got back to work, sorting and cleaning roller skates as customers turned them in.

Lillian excused herself to the restroom, and after relieving herself looked in the mirror. Yeah... She definitely needs to redye her hair. The previous hot pink has faded back to bleached yellow and she had a half inch of roots showing. Quite unbecoming of a hair dye-based cult leader. She set a reminder to buy some dye tomorrow and returned to work.

The rest of her shift went smoothly, and Lillian returned home late at night. Ruby and Kate had retired to their shared room, as the living room was dark. She made her way over to her own bedroom, and beelined to the notebook on her desk.

It turns out that even a busy night at work gives ample free time to brainstorm new tenets. Lillian grabbed a pencil and got to work.

First off, an addendum to one of the existing tenets. Under the sentence about not letting society determine how to present oneself, Lillian wrote:

In addition, the Children of Pastel are free to decide whether or not to follow any uniform or dress code requirements for themselves.

And thinking that there should be some form of recruiting on paper, even if no one actually does any more recruiting, she wrote:

Pastel's children have a calling to spread the word of Pastel to those eligible to join the Church. Although they may suggest the dying of hair to the un-dyed, they cannot reveal the secrets of the Church.

Lillian then took some photos of the pages and sent them off to Zach. He quickly replied with a thumbs up emoji and a short message. "Cool thanks! I'll like not having to wear that stupid polo shirt. See you tomorrow"

Lillian stared at the message in confusion. "Not having to wear the shirt? Why would he say that... I mean, sure it's in the tenets, but there's no way he actually believes he can break dress code because of my notebook. Must be a joke." Satisfied with her conclusion, she turned her phone off and went to sleep.

What does tomorrow bring?
