Chapter 22 by Eastwood Eastwood

What's next?

What is that noise?

You and Brent waited for a few hours. You shared half a bottle of wine to warm up inside while you talked about the past, about the situation and especially about the Others. An icy shiver went up your back every time you heard about the Others.

"What? Are you afraid of them? ” Brent asked with a smirk on his face.

"A little".

"Why?"

“I grew up among northern women... they always told stories about the Others. So, I tend to believe that they exist”.

“Didn't your father teach you not to fear them? Even if they exist.”

"My last name is not Snow for no reason", you replied, but without showing any hint of arrogance or hurt.

“Oh, it's true. Sorry. I forgot".

And a silence fell. Just the breath of you two. And then…

"Did you hear that?", Brent got to his knees.

“What?”, And then you heard it: noises from afar brought by the wind to your ears. Noises? No, voices! Male voices, roughly speaking the common language, and then, some female moans.

Brent crawled over to the window and started to watch. You went right after him, and you looked at each other, trying to hear more as the sound grew louder. You also heard barking. The woman screamed, moaned and then the men laughed.

"Shit...", Brent said as he squinted out the window.

"How many are there?" You whispered.

“I saw five of them. And two dogs. But there can be more”.

"And the woman?"

“They are dragging her. It doesn't look like a wildling. It looks like a northern girl... from behind the Wall”.

"How do you know that?"

“She don't wear the same clothes as his. I don't know how she got here”.

The noises stopped. That's when you remembered:

The horses! They will see the horses and they will know that we are here!

Brent spied again, and then an arrow can be heard cutting through the air and through the window. Brent bent down just in time, and the arrow stuck in the wooden wall of the cabin. His heart raced and Brent's eyes widened. The men outside started screaming in a language you didn't know, and the dogs were barking constantly. You and Brent didn't know what to do.

Do you want to fight?
