The note may be important, so you crack it open and read it. The note is brief and to the point.

I hope you don't mind some meddling from me as you're new here. Although I would have preferred to have one of our ladies filling your role, I want to assure you that I have no intention of sabotaging you, either directly or through inaction.

One of our second-year students, Melody Charms, was recently caught trying to smuggle a small quantity of opiates into this school. Although this is her first offense in this area, and her grades have been VERY good, she will still need to be disciplined. Although a regrettable incident, I suggest you take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate your ability to take control. You can have her paged over the speaker system at your convenience.

She's probably right; these aren't third graders who automatically accept authority. It would be nice to take some time and familiarize yourself with the school, but it would probably be better to take control right away.

You could call up your prefects and give them some assignments: busy hands are happy hands. Or you could just recruit some helpers from among the regular students. Maybe you should just have Melody paged right now and get this over with. Or you could leave the punishment until later, and just spend some more time getting a better idea of where everything in the school is.
