Wednesday (with Ashley)

Emily wearily walked into her parents' shop. It was a small, well-lit room with doors at the back wall leading to the main garage and a small locker room. The room wasn't decorated much; they sold little gadgets and snacks for passing drivers but it mainly served the role of their office. Emily found her sister in her usual spot, lazing around behind the front desk.

Every Wednesday followed the same routine. Ashley waited for customers in her comfortable and air-conditioned office, while Emily stood, sweltering in the garage until a car came by. Emily knew her sister's job was an important one but couldn't help but feel jealous of her sometimes_ especially when no cars were coming around. Ashley refused to let Emily in during these times too. She said Emily waiting outside was "important for marketing." Whatever.

"Hey, Em," Ashley said when her sister walked in. Now, Emily was especially tired today from school. Also, she knew traffic would be low today (just like every other Wednesday). She decided to give it one more shot. "Hey look, I'm really tired today... Can you take care of the cleaning? Just for today?" Ashley finally looked up. "You ask this every time," she said with a sigh. "I haven't changed my mind. Besides, the regulars tell me you're much better at it anyway." Emily rolled her eyes. She wasn't convinced those old creeps liked her so much for her car washing skills.

"Please?" Emily tried once again. Ashley looked at her once again, but this time gave her a warm smile. 'Maybe she noticed how tired I look.' Emily thought. She was disappointed by Ashley's words. "Listen, if you can just pull through for today, I'll give you a big surprise. You'll definitely love it." Emily wasn't particularly excited for whatever it was. "Only if you promise to work today though, OK?" Emily nodded her head. There wasn't much point arguing any further. "Good, now go and get changed," Ashley said.
