What next?
Wedding Rehersal
Around 6:00, everyone gathered in the church for the wedding rehersal. The bride and present bridesmaids were busy bustling about, scoping out every detail. Mark, John, and the other groomsmen sat in the pews chatting.
"So," John whispered to his friend "where is this ever-so-special girl that I'm supposed to meet?"
"Sarah said her flight got delayed, but she be here any ti..." Mark cut himself off, mid speech. Pointing to the doors, "oh, there she is."
John turned to face the doors as a burst of sunlight came in behind a slender figure. As she walked in, John was able to make out her features. His jawed dropped slightly as he watched the perfectly form hourglass figure hurry into the church, her hips swinging with every step. She was clad in low slung blue jeans and a t-shirt. Her wavy brown hair was travel-worn.
He was broken from his reverie when Sarah shouted. "Doe!" And the girls hugged.
Mark turned to John and whispered. "What did I tell you?"
John wanted to say something, but all he could manage was "she's beautiful."
John sat mesmerized as she explained about her travels, flight delay, and then having to wait for a taxi. He sat and took in her beautiful. Her green eyes were expressive and sparked as she laughed. Her face was freckled and her body was more perfect that any he'd ever seen.
Shortly, the girls finished their quick game of catch-up and the wedding rehersal was ready to begin. The bridesmaids and groomsmen all lined up outside the church. Everyone else had already met each other and were chatting while the mundane details were being discussed with the preacher and the bride and groom.
All of the others in the wedding party had already had a chance to meet and chat, but since Doe was so late they didn't get that chance. Mustering all of the courage in his body, John spoke up.
He looked into her green eyes briefly, then shied away. "I-I'm John."
She smiled brightly, but averted his gaze as well. "I'm Doe. Sarah has told me a lot about you. Well, I mean, through Mark, obviously."
John laughed. "Hopefully good things. If so, they're all true. If not, well, they still might be. I don't know."
She laughed, and as he said that the rest of the group was beginning to process into the church. They linked arms and proceeding down the aisle, separating at the alter.
After the rehersal was over, John approached her again. Feeling more confident than usual, he asked "I heard you say you had to get a taxi here. Do you need a ride to dinner?" She smiled as he said this.
"I'd love that!" Then, she added sheepishly, "if you don't mind."
"Not a problem. Not at all." He said to her, and she picked up a calm reassurance in his voice.
They linked arms again and headed to the back of the church where her suitcase was stashed. He grabbed it for her in his free hand and they continued to his car.
Walking behind them, Mark smiled; feeling accomplished until Sarah reminded him "he'd better be as great of a guy as you say."
They walked and Sarah could see for herself as John unlocked his car from the passenger side and opened the door for Doe before walking to the trunk and placing her suitcase inside.
Go to the rehersal dinner or skip it?
