Wake Up Call

When Lauren wakes, she goes to sit up, stretching her arms and letting her blanket fall down her chest, feeling more refreshed than she has in quite a while, chalking it up to her sleeping nearly nude. She has heard before that sleeping naked had that effect on people, though she never risked trying to sleep anywhere near nude before, not with the chances someone saw her like that. She figures there must be something to the rumors. I might have to start sleeping naked more often, Lauren thinks, happily. Her high spirits are short lived, however. As soon as she sits up, she notices a squish accompanied by a cool sensation beneath her. Her heart skips a beat before it starts racing. She stares down at her lap, still covered by her blanket. No… I couldn’t have, she thinks, feeling water pricking at her eyes. She grabs the blanket, unsure if she actually wants to see what’s under it. But she already knows what happened. Her hands hesitate before whisking the blanket off of her. Her bright yellow diaper stares up her, and it’s not alone. It’s accompanied by wet sheets, which almost seem to be taunting her, mocking her for even bothering with the diaper. A tear escapes her, followed by another and another, and against her best efforts the dam just breaks, allowing her tears to flow freely.

Vanessa watches with mirth as the cameras capture it all, her sister as she truly is, a big baby. Vanessa lets Lauren continue for a few before she picks up her phone and gives Lauren a call. She watches Lauren rub the tears out of her eyes and check her phone before hitting end on the call. Not unexpected, but still annoying. Vanessa calls again, same result. So, Vanessa tries again. This time Lauren answers.

“What the hell do you want,” Lauren yells into the phone.

“Hello to you too,” Vanessa says. “Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.” Lauren can’t help but look down at her soiled sheets, feeling shame wash over her.

“Sorry,” Lauren says sheepishly. It actually catches Vanessa off guard for a moment. She can’t remember a time when Lauren ever willingly apologized to her or anyone really.

“It’s fine,” Vanessa says. “I know you’re usually not a morning person. You sound kind of upset, though. What did one of your ‘friends’ piss in your cornflakes or something?” She jokes.

Lauren’s face burns. “Something like that,” Lauren says quietly. “How’s… how’s your trip going?”

For the second time that day, Vanessa is caught off guard. Lauren thinking about others, even if it is just to keep her mind off her current situation, is a side effect Vanessa never even considered when thinking about getting her ****. Maybe there is hope for her sister yet.

“Nessa?”

“Oh, uh, sorry,” Vanessa says. “Bad reception. Everything is going pretty well. Lots of rain, though. I don’t know how we’ve managed to keep dry.” Vanessa laughs. Lauren stays quiet. Vanessa can see her prideful sister staring down at her lap, noticeably not dry. “Uh, Lauren, you there?” She says after a moment.

“Um, yeah… What’s up?”

“You okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” Lauren suddenly snaps defensively.

“Whoa, chill,” Vanessa says. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“I’m not upset!”

“Could’ve fooled me. What are you mad that I took mom and dad on a trip without you?” Vanessa says. “Because, sorry, but I thought I was doing you a favor by getting them out of your hair. After all, you’ve always thrown a fit whenever we made you come on vacation with us before.”

“I’m not upset about that!”

The line goes quiet. “Do you want to talk about… whatever is the matter?” Vanessa offers.

“No… it’s nothing.”

“If you’re sure,” Vanessa says. “Well, anyways, I was calling because I’m expecting a package to be delivered at home today, and someone needs to be there to sign for it. Would you mind doing that for me?”

“What kind of package?” Lauren asks. Ordinarily, Vanessa would have to beg and plead for Lauren to hear her out about something like this, but for whatever reason Lauren is being unexpectedly compliant. Vanessa wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
