WC Day 9 - Umm

You wake up alone, naked, and a mess.

The cell is open. Your clothes are on the floor.

Eli is standing there.

"What happened here?" he asks as you sit up groggily on Meryl's bed.

"Um," you say. "Not sure. She must have overpowered me."

Eli sighs. "It happens. We better go on alert and look for her. And you are late. Go guard the field."

"OK," you say. You don't want to go out in the cold, but you are also glad that you are not in trouble. You get dressed, grab rations, and go outside.

You actually feel a little better this morning. You needed that last night... and you do like redheads. You don't blame Meryl. You know how much it sucks to be a prisoner, so it's fair for her to escape. You listen to the radio, but it doesn't sound like they have found her yet.

You sit on Raven's tank and eat rations, glumly surveying your depressing field. What is there to even guard here?

You notice something from the corner of your eye. You jump down from the tank and walk over through the snow, finding a cardboard box. What is this doing here? Was it here a minute ago? You don't care. You go back to the tank. A moment later you look, and the box is gone. You see it hustling toward the door at the far end of the field.

You jump down, drop your ball and blast it. It smacks the box and sends it and the man inside flying. You jog over to find the guy on his back, knocked cold. He's wearing a cool kind of suit, and a headband. What was he doing under a box? Who is he? You don't recognize him.

You radio Eli, who rushes down to see, looking very happy.

"Great work, Adella! I knew you'd be good at this," he says, giving you a hug.

"Do we know this guy?" you ask.

"He's my brother," Eli says, giving the **** guy a kick. If he's his brother, couldn't he be a little nicer? Well, it's none of your business.

You watch Eli and Ocelot drag the guy toward the doors.

"Am I still being a guard?" you call after them.

"No, we got him," Eli says.

So you're free? Nice. You go inside and warm up... but now you don't have a cute redhead conveniently in a prison cell to talk to. You go looking for Wolf and find her playing with some dogs. She looks pretty happy doing that, so you don't bother her.

You go back to your room and get your phone, which is ringing. It's your dad.

"Adella," he says, sounding pissed.

"What?"

"What are you doing?"

"Just, you know, doing a job. Working," you say. This is actually your first job ever.

"Hijacking nuclear weapons? **** government officials? Isn't that a little much?" he asks.

"I don't know about any of that. I just stopped a burglar," you say.

"What burglar?"

"A man in a headband."

"Oh my God. Adella, it's time for you to come home."

"I'm an adult!"

"You should not be mixed up with those people."

"I like them," you say defensively. Besides, anything that upsets your father must be good. Right?

"You are being very irresponsible and immature," he accuses.

"Am not," you say, offended, and hang up on him.
