Chapter 5 by Draykahn Draykahn

How lucky are you?

Very lucky

As you wait to see whether or not your target is something you can take or not you begin to hear whispered curses interspersed with the crackling of leaves and snap of breaking branches. “Damn quest making me come way out here to find a companion. Why couldn’t they have them spawn closer to the training area?” As you listen, your previous guess of the tracks belonging to a female is confirmed. The voice is definitely feminine even if the language they use is not.

“And how the fuck am I supposed to even find a companion? I haven’t seen anything since entering this gods damned forest.” You hold your breath to stifle the laughter that threatens to come. Maybe you should try to make use of your stealth even a little bit? You think to yourself and grin at your luck as your prey finally comes into view.

A mop of short, red curls stands out sharply from the greens and browns of the forest around her as she ducks and weaves to avoid the branches in front of her. Her attempt at avoidance is to no avail as she snaps another set of twigs. She stomps her foot petulantly and scowls at the broken branches as if they had gravely insulted her. Her waifish form is covered by a simple tunic and tight, brown leather breeches. The only slight protection provided by a small leather jerkin. She carries a simple, unadorned short bow slung over her back along with a small quiver of arrows.

You can’t believe your luck as you concentrate on her, her character sheet appearing as you look on.

Frey Tanglewood, Level 3 Tamer

Feats

Loner: You gain more experience when traveling alone or with a tamed companion.

Brave: You and your tamed companion gain an attack boost when facing opponents that are a higher level than you.

Definitely inexperienced, though it seemed like her player was a bit of a min/maxer with those traits. This may be a slight challenge but surely she wasn’t anything you couldn’t handle. She didn’t even have a companion yet, and she wasn’t prepared for an attack. It would take her a moment to wield her bow. If she didn’t notice you as she came even with the thicket you hid within she’d have no opportunity to get a ranged attack in and would have to rely on unarmed attacks assuming she didn’t have a dagger handy. Perfect, I couldn’t have asked for better prey for my first kill. Now you only had to wait for the right moment to pounce.
