She stares at you. "That's pretty obvious from how banged up you are."

"Well, I'm not changing that."

"I think you're making a mistake."

Yeah, maybe. Still, you've made your decision and you're going to move forward with it. "Wish I could afford you as a bodyguard but I'm going to have to deal with these problems in my own way."

"Learning some self-defense might keep you alive long enough to deal with things. Not learning it won't."

"Listen, I've made up my mind." At least you're proud of yourself for sticking to your guns rather than caving like you always did with Amber. The fact you're almost certain you made the wrong choice does reduce your self-satisfaction to a certain extent.

"Fine. Guess I'll see you around."

You've heard enough similar rejections in your life to recognize this as basically saying she hopes she won't see you around. Shit.

"Yeah, see you, Jackie."

She jogs off at a speed that does not welcome you tagging along... not that you could given how beat up you are. Still, it makes the message completely clear.
