Chapter 6
by 11kestrels
Do they stick around? Or do they run?
Trapped!
The girls quickly ran to their left, but headlights out of nowhere suddenly blinded them. They ran to the right, and the same thing happened. The only choice they seemed to have was to run back for the bus station. They ran as fast as they could, all the way back to the closed building, and ducked around the side of it. What do we do now?" panted Seanna.
Nicole looked around, still trying to catch her breath. She found a window, and tried it. It slid open easily. "In here quick!' she yelled. Both girls dove through the open window just as headlights appeared around the corner. Seanna quickly closed the window and locked it, then both girls crawled across the floor in the dark, looking for a place to hide. They knew it wouldn't be long before whoever it was came back to search the bus depot. They finally found the main counter, and quickly hid behind it.
It was Nicole who made the next discovery. There was a trap door in the floor, right underneath the counter. She tugged at the strap to pull it up, but it wouldn't budge. "Seanna, help me with this! It won't be long until they figure out what happened to us. They'll be back, and they'll break the door down to get to us." Both girls desperately tugged at the trap door's leather strap. Finally, it gave and the door swung open.
Seanna went down first to see if she could see anything. She pulled out her lighter, and flicked it. Eerie flickering shadows cast themselves against the far wall, and a dark opening loomed before her in the middle of it. "Hurry Nicole" she called to her friend. "There's an underground tunnel down here. If nothing else, we'll be safer down here than up there."
Nicole came down after her, and closed the trap door with a thud. The girls looked around in what little light they had for something to block the door with. Seanna found a metal rod that looked like it would work by placing it through a pair of rings on the bottom of the door. The metal rod slid perfectly in place, and held the door tightly against the floor.
It was at that point they heard vehicles pulling up outside the bus depot. "Just in time," sighed Seanna. "That was too close." They knew they'd be safe as long as that rod held the trap door in place.
The two girls listened quietly as someone tried to open the front door, and someone else tried the window. "Locked up tight" called a male voice. "They can't be in here."
"Where else could they be?" another male voice asked.
"Both of you get in the truck now. We're wasting our time here" another male voice said. "Let's go back to the village and find a couple of locals."
Doors slammed, vehicles started, and engines roared away into the distant night. Finally the two girls were left all alone. Nicole looked at Seanna."What do we do now?" she asked.
Seanna thought for a while. "We could stay her until morning, and hope that we can get the door open again. Or we could try the tunnel over there in the far wall, and see where it leads. What do you wanna do?"
Nicole thought on this for a while. It would probably be safer if they stayed right where they are. But there was something about the tunnel that kept calling her to explore it. "Are we really going to be safe here?"
Do they investigate the tunnel, or stay put?
