What's next?

Tori at school, ch. 2

[Tori's POV, Seattle, 2029. The first days of the Vampire Revolution.]

It's lunchtime, and Tori is sitting alone. (Tanya has lunch in a different period.) She is barely eating though. Her one distraction is television: it takes her mind off of things, at least for a bit. Her latest binge-obsession is The L Word. A bit outdated, but she's a sucker for the soap opera-y melodrama and the steamy action. While her thoughts are a mess, one thing that had become crystal clear to Tori over the last week was that she was a lesbian. Deep down, she had always known but never admitted it. Her complicated encounters with Carla had unleashed a wave of desire in her.

Tori munches on an apple, watching on her small smartphone screen, so engrossed that she doesn't see the girls standing behind her.

"Oh my God, Tori is watching porn at school!" a tall blonde girl yells, clasping her mouth in faux-outrage. "What a pervert!" Her friends all laugh.

"Lesbian porn" a second girl scoffs, causing another round of laughter. Tori quickly sticks the phone in her pocket, and tries to walk away. Courtney (the blonde) and her gaggle of vapid friends had been bullying Tori since at least middle school. She knows better than to engage, it will only make things worse.

"I bet she's going to the bathroom" Courtney teases, winking at her friends. Tori fights back tears, scrambling out of the cafeteria. The room has gone quiet, except for the mirthful guffaws of the Courtney crew. Tori feels like all eyes are starting at her.

I hate them so much Tori thinks bitterly, running into an empty classroom. She's cries, feeling totally alone.

Tori sits in a stall, rubbing her eyes with a tissue.

I hate them she thinks angrily, trying to stifle sobs. The constant bullying, never quite being in the "in" clique in her small school, it's taken its toll over the years. I wish someone could teach them a lesson...

The idea is obvious, though Tori curses herself for even thinking it. But she can't get the idea out of her mind, awful as it is. The more she thinks about it, the more she likes it.

They are nasty shallow people one voice tells her.

No. It's wrong. It's murder. They don't deserve that another voice counters.

They do. Of course they do! the first voice responds. Make them pay...

Tori wipes the last tears from her face and exits the bathroom, holding her chin up. Mom is asleep, but won't be for long she thinks.

Does Tori listen to the angel or devil on her shoulder?
