Toad Town Captured

Luigi lead Goombario and Kooper down the road that would take them into Toad Town. The inhabitants there had always been friendly and Mario had used it as a hub for some of his previous adventures to gather information and supplies. As they neared the town, Luigi realized that it wouldn't be so simple for his team. Koopa troopers were patrolling the town, and the road to Peach's castle was under heavy guard. Luigi and the others hid just outside of town and watched for a few minutes to decide their best coarse of action.

From what they could see, the old training hall, post office, and general store were all closed, with heavy chains and locks preventing access. There were still Toads going about their business, but the air of oppression was as heavy as the chains and no one had their usual happy looks. A Koopa roughly shoved a Toad that had gotten too close and several of the other Koopa gathered in case of a fight. The poor Toad cowered and ran.

Luigi was furious. He wanted to help, but didn't know how. If Mario was here then things would be different. He would know how to enter the town and be charging into the castle within hours. But Mario was gone.... Luigi made up his mind then. He couldn't enter the town the normal way, but he could find another way. Mario had talked about a sewer system running under the town. Sewers have to come out somewhere.

"Goombario, do you remember the sewers here?"

"Oh! Yeah that could work. It comes out near the port side of town. If we head south from here, we might be able to find something."

"As long as we don't run into any patrols that is," added Kooper.

"Letsa go," confirmed Luigi.
