To the laboratory

A couple of minutes later, Jack, now heading back to the city, read through the information the AI had given him. The scientist, Jenna Miller, was apparently working at the state research laboratory, which was located in the city.

Getting there was no problem, but when Jack got out of the tram, he realized that he couldn’t just walk into the laboratory. He would catch too much attention and also the gun could be noticed, which would bring him into serious trouble.

A small curse but then he decided that he needed a solution. For a little bit, he watched the entrance to the lab.

“I assume you want to get into that place without catching attention,” suddenly a female voice said and Jack spun around. The woman, maybe in her thirties, leaned against a wall and had a knowing smirk on her face.

“Who are you?”

“Winni,” she said. “You?”

“Jack. Why do you think I want to get into the laboratory?”

“Oh, just guessing. Of course, I could be wrong and you just want to admire the architecture, from a shady side alley.”

He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, I need to get in there.”

“For what?”

“Not your business,” he said and wondered if he should simply use the stun gun or the collar on her.

“Oh, you a spy or so?”

“No, I am not a spy.”

“Good, otherwise I would’ve been surprised. Well, I could get you in there but you need to help me with something.”

“And that would be?”

“Got kicked out. Apparently, my research wasn’t fulfilling the expectations. But I am most certain that Mike simply stole my data and showed it off as his. I need you to go to his office and download his PC with this stick.”

“Why you do not go in there yourself?” he asked.

“Because they know me. Even in disguise, they would quickly recognize me. You could dress up as a janitor and nobody will bat an eye.”

“Still have to get past the security.”

“You have not.”

“What do you mean?”

“Only if you help me …”

“Okay, I gonna help you.”

“Great,” Winni said. “See the old building next to the research centre, the one partly demolished already? It is the old location and those two buildings are connected underground. Barely anyone knows of the tunnel connection and it isn’t secured.”

“So you want me to dress up as a janitor and sneak in through that tunnel?”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”
