Chapter 6 by Nemo of Utopia Nemo of Utopia

Three Tastes In One: Part 2

I bound up the stairs, my newly acquired body moving at **** speed, and hearing shouting from the children's rooms. I learn what they are even before I get there in this way: "Chim-Chimchar!", "Spear-! Spearow! SPEAR-OW!", "Ferro-! -Seed! Ferroseed!"...

That leaves two unaccounted for, so I approach their rooms first, which are fortunately right next to each other...

First up is Destiny Moesha Arnold: Janet's adopted sister. When Janet was two her parents were told they couldn't have more children because of R/H incompatibility. They therefore, knowing Janet needed siblings to teach her how to socialize, became foster parents, and a few years later adopted the first foster child placed with them: Destiny. They since have left the foster system, but for several years it was just Destiny and Jannet.

Destiny is two years older than Jannet, but still lives at home to save on rent while she attends University of Pittsburgh. She works a dead end job at a local McDonalds to pay her bills: including 'rent' for her 'Studio Apartment' in her parents house (A hundred dollars a month); her share of utilities, the media bundle, food costs, and so forth; car payments, maintenance, and gas; and the things she needs for school. All told her take-home-pay is around nine-hundred a month and expenses come to just under seven-hundred-fifty or so. She divides the surplus into three stacks of fifty dollars: one that she invests in stocks, bonds, and/or her high interest savings account; one for 'Frivolity Purchases'; and the last one for "Special Expenses", like Birthday and Christmas Presents...

I'm right at the door to Destiny's room and wondering how to open it, when some instinct makes me duck! A split second later a Pokéball smashes against the door! I turn around to see a young woman, the spitting immage of a younger "Nurse Joy", standing in the doorway of Jannet's last younger sibling: the aptly named, "Joy".

When Jannet's parents were told they had R/H incompatibility, they were working as missionaries in South Africa. They had no insurance, and the doctor was not up to speed on the latest western fertility treatments, so he believed the problem to be insoluble. By the time they returned to the the USA a year later, they had internalized the idea that Jannet would be it, thus choosing to become foster parents instead. However, seven years after their return, their church's pastor retired, and the new pastor, going around and meeting the congregation, heard their story and asked "Why didn't you try RhoGam?"

Thanks to Mr Arnold's job as a police officer they had IMPECCABLE insurance now, so they used it and went to a fertility clinic run by one "Doctor Shoko Sugimoto". Dr. Sugimoto was an ex-Japanese citizen with a reputation for unorthodox methods but uncontested results. No patients accepted by her clinic had EVER failed to conceive: and most of them with only a handful of visits.

Dr. Sugimoto ran a few tests and established a simple regime of alternative diets, rigorous daily exercise, a small cocktail of medicines for both Mr & Mrs Arnold (including RhoGam for Jannet's mother), and enthusiastic-but-long sexual intercourse once every three days. After four months, they got the happy news that they were expecting. Five months after THAT, they got the much more shocking news that they were having fraternal Quadruplets, and began expanding their house. At fourty-One weeks after conception Mrs Jessica Arnold went into labor, and was delivered of the last of her children around dawn the next day. Her recovery took a long time, but her sisters and aunts that lived in the area pitched in to help for a good long while.

Now you may ask, with Doctor Sugimoto's techniques being so successful, why did they stop with the Quads? The answer to that is paraphrasing of a quote from a an evil and childmolesting; but nevertheless clever; bastard who will remain nameless: "We have six children because we don't want to have seven!"

I've never taken Joy for the type of person who would be into Pokémon, but as she winds up for her second pitch, I know I am trapped! }Joy! It's ME, Amy, your sister Jannet's best friend!{ I call out mentally, but the Pokéball is already airborne, even as a look of horror comes over Joy's new face...
