There was a break in

As my eyes continued to adjust, I looked around and immediately recognized the sterile feel of a hospital.

"What is the last thing you remember?"

My head still hurt. Its like a thunderstorm was raging inside my head. I was having a hard time focusing.

"I was working in the research lab and lost track of time. Angela came to get me for our date night........"

Growing up in in the Gotham slums was hard enough, but add an abusive alcoholic father, Asperger's syndrome and subtract a mom and childhood becomes a living hell. I was constantly being pushed around and mocked.

Angela became my guardian angel. Ever since we met she been protecting me from the cruel world. In exchange I helped her in her classes. Angela may be small at only 5' 2" but she packed a big puch from years of gymnastics training.

Angela has been a doing gymnastics since she was a kid. She moved through the air with a grace that rivaled the birds. We were both thrilled when we got scholarships, in gymnastics and academics reapectively, to Gotham U.

Everything changed at college. She spent most of her time practicing with the rest of GU's gymnastics team, thats where she met Barbara, but we still managed to hang out almost every weekend. One of these weekends i finally confessed my love. She just laughed and said? "Took you long enough, you goof!" We have been together ever since.

"....Then was a loud crash outside. Next thing I know I'm waking up here with the worst headache of my life. Do you know what happened? Where is Angela? She'll want to know I'm ok."

Barbara looked like she was about to start crying. Her hands trembled and she wouldn't look at me.

"Babs? Angela's alright isn't she?"

She just ahook her head. Now my eyes were watering.

"Whats wrong with her? Is she hurt?"

"John I'm so *sob* so sorry. Angela didn't make it. She's ..... gone."
