When Thera had finished speaking, there was a brief moment of silence as everyone took in what she had just said. Then, one woman began to clap and cheer and, slowly, all of the village women followed suit. At long last, they felt free and powerful.
The men, however, all began to shout in outrage. They said that all of Thera’s words were just a load of rubish. They demanded to be given their clothes back and many of them threatened to burn Thera for performing witchcraft.
It didn’t take long for one finally liberated housewife to silence her screaming husband by kicking him right in the testicles. When his cries of pain were heard, many other women began to kick, punch, and generally attack the men around them, proving that they truly were in charge now. Once all of the men had finally shut their mouths, Thera spoke once more.
“My sisters,” she said, “Thank you so much for heeding my message. What you have just done shall be remembered by the women of this village for generations to come as an act of freedom and justice. It is time for us to make some long-needed changes here.”
