Chapter 27

Time for a teachin'.
The whole gang's back together!
This first class of the day is a fun kerfuffle of information and classmate bonding, aided by Ben being the same age as most of you and so being willing to join in at the same time as he acts all professional. At one point, he has to stop talking about some of the organs unique to monsters because Lexi is chewing and blowing bubbles of spearmint gum, but even then he's pretty civil about it.
"Lexi, if you're going to chew that to help focus, try not to pop it so loudly as well." Ben says. "It makes the rest of us jealous."
Lexi's eyes flash with sudden distress, and she reaches up to smack her forehead. "Oh shoot, I didn't even think about that! Hang on, I've got more."
Springing up energetically from her relaxed seated position, Lexi digs through her pocket and pulls out a pack of gum which she takes over to each of you in the classroom and to Ben at the front. She starts with you of course, because you're the favourite, and also because you're the seat right in front of her and she most likely would've gone there first anyway but you're still the favourite. The flavour is very strong and you are very satisfied as you chew determinedly.
Ben has a look on his face as she brings it up to him that says "I'm not sure if I'm supposed to stop this or not", but ultimately he gives in and takes his piece of gum thankfully before letting Lexi go around to the rest of the class. Last of all is Delilah, who sits down in her chair with her arms crossed and a half-scowl half-pout on her face. Delilah side-eyes her warily.
"Yes, Delilah, for you too." Lexi says, reaching the side of Delilah's chair and holding out the pack of gum, shaking it side to side.
Delilah uncrosses one arm and reaches out to grab a stick of gum, face flushing slightly. "Th-thanks." She sticks it in her mouth gratefully and Lexi returns to her seat, allowing class to continue from that point on.
The class is mostly focused on monster weaknesses and weakpoints again, going over different commonly exploitable areas, though this time more useful for defence than offence. Turns out, a lot of the monsters with the bluish skin from the North of the island also happen to have fused ribs, which for keeping their important bits safe sounds awesome and you're jealous, but for breathing is apparently a bit of a bad thing. Their lungs can't fill up with air and expand as easily or to as big sizes, so they can't hold their breath long at all and are basically always breathing nonstop -- retreating even just a little bit under water will get you totally safe. Neat!
Also, giants' skulls aren't like human ones. They never really grow out of that unfused weak baby phase (which you are proud to say that you DID grow out of), so there's a huge weakpoint right in the middle of the top of their heads that you can just donk for massive damage and huge success. A-assuming you can, you know, get up that high....
There was some other less interesting stuff he covered that you only really paid half attention to, but since it was less interesting it probably wasn't too important or examinable in the long run, right? Otherwise you'd think it was cool. That's just basic evolution. The bell rings to signal the end of class, and after a brief pack-up period, six happy students and one happy teacher all waddle out of the classroom to go have their extra-long lunches. Because you've got a study period for your second class, booyah!
Good start to the day!
