Chapter 2 by jolteon17 jolteon17

You look up at your new house

The house on 26th is...

Chapter Two - Polished and Perfect

"Holy Hell." you state matter-of-factly.

Before you was the most elaborate house you'd ever seen in your life. Huge floor to ceiling windows framed by a crisp, cubic style exterior. Lush green grass cut to the perfect length. It stood out as starkly different to the surrounding landscape, with white surrounding walls separating the paradise from the now less beautiful looking landscape around it.

Forcing yourself to tear your gaze away from the incredible structure in front of you, you look down the long stretches of road to either side of you, eager to see any of your neighbors. To your surprise, however, it seemed like the only house on the street was yours.

Of course, you thought. Safety concerns. As much as it made sense for that to be the case, it didn't help you from feeling a little more isolated than you'd like to.

As if to rub salt in the wound, your chauffer came up next to you, offering the keys to the house, a few documents about how the processes of the estate functioned, and left with a bow. Now it was just you and the house.

"Well", you stated to no one in particular, "Let's see what all the fuss is about."

Starting up the walkway, you continued to marvel at the sheer size of the home. The magazine didn't do this thing justice at all, it was like a mansion. Surely it wasn't all yours, was it? Chuckling to yourself out of sheer amazement, you finally made it to the doorstep. "Alright Mr. John Doe, welcome to your new and improved life!"

You unlock the door with a click, and step through the threshold, into your new Happy Home...

woah

Instantly you're met with what you must imagine the gates of heaven look like. Polished, white floors, as far as you could see. Beautiful stainless steel appliances adorning the stunning kitchen. The huge kitchen. Moving from there, your eyes found the massive dining room, the giant windows surrounding the house somehow supplying a ton of light, even though the blinds were all drawn. It must've been an innovation of your father's.

The living room was next, with a huge grey couch, and a gigantic flat screen TV across from it. You had to wipe away the tears that were forming in your eyes. It was all so bright, so clean, so perfect! And all you'd seen so far was the entryway view!

You continued your tour around the first floor, finding a guest bedroom, a couple half baths, and more stunning side rooms than you would ever know what to do with. This was a house that any snot faced kid who didn't want to work a day in their lives would kill to have. Moving back to the entry way, you decide its finally time to get into the nitty gritty of the home experience. The tech.

You look down at the papers that your driver gave you, isolating the HHI instruction manual from the legal mumbo jumbo. Looking it over, you pale slightly at the length of the document. That's a lot of instructions, you think to yourself, combing through the packet. While you were raised by two parents with extensive mathematical and technological backgrounds, you yourself never really found interest in any of that sort of thing. You studied the arts instead, and your parents always supported that decision. Unfortunately it seemed to be coming back to bite you now.

I'm not sure what like half of these words mean... you admit to yourself.

Trying to make heads or tails of any of the technical terms you see on the document, your eyes finally find the words "First Steps" and you skim over the section beneath it. "Blah Blah activation Blaaaaahhh" you breath in mild annoyance, feeling frustrated at your inability to figure any of this out.

Resolving to figure things out the old fashioned way, you skip ahead past the PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTUP headings, and arrive at Startup. Alright House, let's see what you've got!

"Happy Home, begin First-Time Bootup Procedure!"

Whirrrrrrrrr
