The double date

Dean, Brooke, Richard and Alexa had a lot to catch up on, it’s been a long and eventful week for everyone it seems.

Everyone piled into the car, Dean driving and Brooke riding shotgun. Alexa and Richard were of course in the back. Dean shared with everyone his eventual business trip, only sharing the business part of the trip that is.

The group arrived to the restaurant, Dean did most, if not all the talking on the short drive there. They exit the vehicle and go into the restaurant, Brooke made reservations, they get seated at their table. Dean continues his story about work since no one else seemed to know what to say.

Dean finally finished, everyone seemed bored with his story, all of them looking like they are thinking. Dean decides to change the subject and asks Brooke how her week was.

Brooke gave it some thought, she obviously couldn’t tell Dean about all the sex she had with Richard. She came up with some work related things that happened, if they actually did or not, Dean was none the wiser. Brooke talked about how successful her business is becoming recently, and the bonus is that she can work less hours by pawning off her work to lower level employees of hers.

Alexa seems interested in what Dean and Brooke have to say about their weeks. Richard doesn’t add any input or care to listen, he just looks over the menu.

The waitress comes and everyone puts in their order. Alexa now feels it is her turn to share about her week. She spent the week having photo shoots, she actually travelled to a couple different states, the week was very eventful for her. Alexa tells the group of the many hours of travel and she was exhausted. Instead of just relaxing at home she was here on a double date that she really didn’t want to be on in the first place. Richard at least seemed somewhat interested in what Alexa had to say.

Once she finished up presumably it would be Richard’s turn to share. He didn’t get the hint, he stayed quiet. Richard seemed to backtrack again to being nervous in front of Alexa. Brooke tries to egg him on to talk but he doesn’t take the bait. He excuses himself to go to the bathroom. Once out of earshot Brooke makes excuses for Richard, “He’s just a little nervous!” She is really trying hard for Richard. Alexa gives a half smile and starts drinking her drink. Here she goes again drinking to make this date more fun, she orders another drink. Brooke says, “I’m going to go talk to him.” She leaves without another word.

Dean and Alexa are left at the table again... just like last double date. Alexa continues to sip on her drink. Dean is lost in his thoughts, he remembers what happened last time Brooke went to go find Richard, she came back without lipstick. Dean decides to join Alexa in downing drinks. Dean makes conversation, “So what was so great about the first date that you wanted another?” He grinned knowing she really didn’t want to be here. Alexa laughed a little. She could sense the sarcasm, “The free unlimited drinks sealed the deal.” Dean and Alexa laughed together. Alexa continued, “And well Brooke practically begged me to come.” Dean joked, “So you don’t feel a love connection?” Alexa smiled, “like I said last time, he’s just not my type, he seems nice but just not for me.” Alexa was trying to be as nice as possible, she was a good person.

Brooke and Richard return to the table. Richard didn’t seem to be nervous anymore, walking back to the table with a purpose. Brooke walked behind him, her hair looked a little disheveled. They took their seats at the table.

Richard actually started asking Alexa questions about herself and her job and getting to know her better. Dean and Brooke seemed to turn into bystanders watching their date unfold.

Richard seemingly turned into the perfect gentlemen, guess Brooke’s ‘talk’ helped. He wasn’t bragging about himself or talking over the conversation, it seemed natural. Alexa even stopped her rapid drinking, could she be getting interested? Dean didn’t think so, Richard can be perfectly nice but it doesn’t change the way he looks, Alexa does not find Richard attractive.

The food arrived at the table and the conversations halted for a little bit and centered around the food they were having.

Brooke interrupted the sounds of chewing, “Richard, you forgot to tell everyone the big news!”

Big news? Dean didn’t know anything about any big news. He’s been spying on them for a week and yet this is a surprise for him. What could Brooke know that Dean doesn’t?
