The Soul Gem

Batman traveled most of the night until the wee hours in the morning before he came into the city of Akron. There were hardly any people out at this hour, so this made it ideal to investigate the crash site. He squeezed through a lot of yellow lights and made plenty of turns before reaching the shore of Knox Lake. Luckily, no authorities have been summoned as of yet, but it seemed... eerily quiet. As if there were no signs of life at all...

He exited the car and held out a scanner he used to track the jewel's energy signature, following the beeping. As he got steadily closer and closer, the beeping became more frequent, meaning he was closing in. But his tuned senses picked up on the quiet, and he had a bad feeling about what he would find. Finally, the beeping was almost a singular tone when he noticed a green glow on the bank. Bruce reached his gloved hand down and grasped something, pulling it out: the Soul Gem. It was a sight to behold, but he had little time to mess around as he had 5 more to collect, and protect. So he put it into one of the compartments in his belt.

Suddenly, there was a rustle in two nearby bushes and the Dark Knight readied himself to battle what would be in there. But when he saw who it was, dressed up in a black-and-blue costume, he was relieved but not quite relaxed. "Dick. What are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you too, Bruce," Grayson greeted, with a tone of sarcasm. "Alfred said you might need some help. So he let me know. And Oracle let me know you were on your way to a meteor shower landing, sending Robin to help find some more of those rocks."

"No!" Batman argued. "You weren't supposed to come. Neither of you. This is more dangerous than you know." But his ex-protégé countered,

"As if we've never fought dangerous bad guys before? TIME AFTER TIME."

"This is bigger than Poison Ivy, Bane, Joker, or Ra's Al Ghul." Wayne would need to figure out how to deal with these gemstones' abilities, but for now... "But if you insist on accompanying me, then you follow my directions exactly. Understood?"

"Just like old times," Dick joked, following his former mentor into the Batmobile. Knowing Bruce had to focus on finding the rest of these 'Infinity Gems', he hopped in the backseat and said nothing.

"Computer, locate closest gem with similar energy signatures." It plotted out the next one to find, and then Batman pressed on the keypad below the screen to chart out a shortcut to find it near... "Salt Lake City..." And off they rode, the Dynamic Duo in temporary action once again.
