The Shoth are a pseudo Hive-mind, a collected consciousness that operate individually from their Patriarch. An individual Shoth communicates to others of it's race through telepathy, though how they interact with other Races is through their ability to transform their bodies into any desirable shape as long as it retains the individuals original mass, allowing them to form the necessary competency to speak, appear humanoid, Etc.

The Shothen Matriarch, The Shogot controls the entire Hive and the Hive serve an important purpose in the Scarlet-Empire, that of the Empire's Clergy, The Shoth are beings sworn to priesthood, devoting their lives to the Red God in the Name of the Immortal-Empress.

Shoth individuals are unlimited in number as long as the Shogot is alive to create more from her being and the Shogot is controlled by? that's right, You guessed it! The Immortal-Empress.
