Chapter 18 by SingingLark SingingLark

Whose side will Liandra take?

The King

Liandra let their argument rage for sometime, but she eventually intervened.

"Beloved mother... beloved father. I know it is out of love that both of you fight. Affection for your daughter, concern for your subjects. Mother...it is my fate, and I don't resent it. Had I ten lives, I would sacrifice each in gratitude for all you gave me" Liandra couldn't understand how grave those words were "Father, do we have the luxury to wait for months? please let me go to prince Mortimer´s Kingdom, and beg my fiance for his aide."

The Queen started to sob, and the King wasn't any happier to hear his daughter´s dutiful words. "So be it. I will elect twelve of my best knights to go with you"

The road was indeed fraught with peril. Not even three days after they left the capital they were attacked by brigands. Two more and they found a slaving dark elf party. Later that evening it was a band of giants. The knights fought valiantly, but they didn't escape unscratched from the fights. If Liandra couldn't help during combat, at least she could help binding their wounds.

"We are nearing the territory where Demons rule. Sir Klaus, I have an order" The most senior of the knights said to the youngest "if things turn to worse, you shall be the one to bring word to the kingdom." The knight, barely older than Liandra, agreed. He couldn't know in less than twenty four hours he would have to make true of his promise.

The fight was ****, but the knights lacked the numbers to prevail. The demons came from the woods in waves, and their bodies started to pile up, but each handful cost the brave luxians dearly. Eventually there were only three knights left fighting, and Sir Klaus dashed through the demon horde, trying to go away without looking back.

Stay with her defenders, or try to leave with Sir Klaus?
