Chapter 9

The Interview

The inside of the building looked clean like an office building or as Jodie hated to admit, like a Hospital. Susan stopped at a certain door and told Jodie to wait for her outside.

Jodie was angry, not at her Mom or her Dad, but at herself. What was wrong with her? Why was this happening? Her thoughts were interrupted when Susan walked out of the room. "Jodie, it's ok. Go on in. I'll be right here sweetheart.

Jodie swallowed hard and walked in the office. Behind a desk in the middle of the room sat a man with horn rimmed glasses not that much older than her Dad.

"Hello Jodie, come in. Said the man. My name is Nathan Dawkins. I thought it best to have a chance to chat and get to know each other a little better, if that's ok with you of course. Please sit."

Jodie took that as a command and immediately sat down. Nathan saw fear in Jodie's eyes. "Jodie, it's ok it's just us here."

Hearing that, Jodie relaxed a bit in the leather chair watching Nathan place a running tape recorder on the table.

"Jodie." Nathan began. "My job is to study strange events, and then try to explain them. Like what is happening around you, right Jodie?" Jodie nodded guiltily. "Can you tell me what's been happening?" Asked Nathan. Jodie was visibly shaking, not only was she scared, but she felt a cold chill run through her chest and out her spine. "Jodie? Jodie I'm talking to you. Jodie flinched, because she wasn't hearing Nathan, but her Dad, Philip.

A bookshelf trembled behind where Nathan was sitting. As it began to tilt and possibly injure Nathan, Jodie shot up out of her seat and yelled. "No Aiden!" The bookshelf just rocked in place as a stunned Nathan stared in amazement.

"Who is Aiden, Jodie? Nathan asks.

"I don't know who he is but he's always there. He scares me. I didn’t ask him to stay! I want him gone!" Jodie cupped her face in her hands, giving Nathan a clear view of the marks on her wrists.

"Did he do that to you?"

"No." Jodie said **** back a sob and wiping off tears from her eyes. " The monsters did."

Nathan believed Jodie whole heartedly while escorting her back to her Mom who was waiting outside of the office. Nathan whispered something in Susan's ear saddening enough to make her frown, look down at Jodie and nod.

In the parking lot Jodie was following her Mom and asked. "What's wrong Mom?"
