The Idea of Exchange

Max had always had a fantasy where he could get anyone to accept anything by simply offering them something; anything at all. He could walk into a store, bring a TV to the front, give the cashier a rock, and that exchange would be completely acceptable.

The second part is being able to get people to do things they would not normally do with that exchange and they would view it as completely normal and natural.
