The Game begins

“Okay, first things first.” Ms. Karma stated, “There is going to be a package outside your door with a note attached to it. Bring it in and follow the note exactly. Once you do that, call me back for more instructions.”

The woman had apparently hung up. Sighing, Lauren did the same. She tiptoed to the front door and opened it slightly. Looking down, Lauren saw a small brown box in front of her door and brought it inside. Just as Ms. Karma had said, there was a note attached to the package. Opening it, Lauren read the latter’s contents.

Dear Lauren,

If you are reading this, congratulations! You have successfully completed the first of many steps of this game. Now, I bet you’re wondering what is inside this package. Well, that’s simple to answer. In this package you will find four things: a pair of scissors, a package of elastic hair ties, a pink bow, and a bag containing the only clothes you’re allowed to wear today! Your orders are to cut your hair to the base of your neck and then use some of the hair ties to tie your hair into pigtails. After you do that, you are to place the bow into your hair. Finally, you are to open the bag and put the clothes on; after which you are to send me a picture of you in your new outfit. I will call you immediately after I received the picture for further instructions.

Lauren paled as she set the letter down. Cut her hair?! She couldn’t do that! Her hair was the only feature of her that she considered the most adult! And then she was to put it in pigtails?! And put a bow in it?! No way! She was about to throw the note away when she saw the little bit of wording on the back.

P.S. – If I do not have the picture by two o’clock, then you forfeit and I post all two hundred sixty-eight photographs of you all over the internet.

Lauren looked up at the clock: one thirty-six. She gulped. A haircut it was.

Walking over to her vanity, Lauren sat down in front of the mirror with the package. Opening it, Lauren pulled out the first three items. Taking the scissors in trembling hands, she began to cut her hair until it reached the base of her neck. Then, taking out the hair ties, she proceeded to tie her hair into two, dorky pigtails. Next was the bow; a small pink one with sequins and white polka dots. She placed it in her hair. She looked at herself in the mirror; she looked absurd!

And if this was just her hair, what were the clothes that Ms. Karma gave her to be her only outfit for today?
