The Final Charge

From the top of each machine rose their dildos. It was obvious that they meant to charge your position. Instead of sitting down and waiting you stood up and stepped out of cover. You raised your weapon and opened fire. The remnants of your platoon joining you in a cacophony of fire on the remaining enemies.

They didn't stand a chance. The last one simply keeled over and died from prior damage that must have affected its circuits. The field was quiet suddenly. The only noise coming from Gideon IV's equivalent of birds. Sounding out of place after so long with just the sounds of gunfire and the distinct pings of armor being knocked off.

Then the cheers started. The rousing roar of your remaining soldiers filling you with pride at how you had overcome this obstacle. It wasn't without heavy cost, however. Over half of your command was down including your engineer, all of your NCOs and your light infantry. If the enemy had just a single squad of actual human infantry this battle probably would have ended differently.

"Everyone on me!" You ordered, your medic and your soldiers gathering around you. All waiting for instructions. "Just because someone didn't follow up on that fight doesn't mean nobody heard it. I'm splitting you into two groups. Group one, I want you to get out there and see if those hunks of junk had anything useful. Group 2, I want our cover improved. We're going to be here for the night and I don't want anything lurking out there to just walk over us. Understood?"

They all replied with a chorus of 'yes ma'ams' and separated into the groups their HUDs had automatically assigned them. You then turned to your medic.

"I've only got the twelve ma'am. If we use them now we'll have more hands available during the night but unless we can take more off someone else we've got no way to replenish them. It's your call. Do we use them now?" She asked, obviously fine with whatever decision you made.
