The Fight continues
Nobody ever accused Vos of being a coward. She and her soldiers rushed into position as quickly as possible. So quickly that she forgot to take proper cover as she ran to the line. You watched as she leaped into the air to take her position and got blasted by an observant Revolution, her armor shredded and knocked out cold. Her troops opened up in a rage but their aim was highly inaccurate and didn't add much to the battle.
Squad 2, on the other hand, was having fantastic luck. Sierra had figured out there had been a minor bug in the aiming software and now that it was fixed her squad quickly wracked up 6 drone kills. The number of flyers was starting to drastically reduce.
Squad 3 managed to chalk up a good 3 of their own but their casualties were starting to hamper them.
"Lieutenant The Vivas are slacking! We should switch fire to the big boys now!" Amelia called out. "We can deal with the fliers if they try to move in!" As she said that she took a few rounds to her side, fortunately, they didn't get through but her armor integrity took a pounding. Much like everyone else's. Her squad's return volley gave as good as it got, killing another 6 drones as if to prove her point.
"No! If we do that there's nothing to stop them from grabbing our wounded! We have to kill them all before we can deal with the ground pounders!" Sierra argued as her squad accounted for another 3 of their own.
"I think it would be prudent to mention that if we get out of this I'm not sure if we can carry all that scra-" Your engineer tried to chime in before a particularly lucky revolution managed to two shot her. Sending her down. Great. Now you wouldn't be able to get your damage repaired until she recovered. Shocked by the sudden loss of their engineer the 3rd still managed to kill two drones and finish off one that second squad had wounded.
"Fuck! We're getting hammered here!" The acting leader of the light infantry announced. Their armor was far squishier than your heavies and it was starting to show. Already half of your impromptu reinforcements had gone down. While they were far better at avoiding fire on the move than your heavies. In a fixed position they were at a clear disadvantage. They still managed to kill 3 drones despite their own losses.
"We've got em! That's the last of the little-" Sierra shouts triumphantly before being cut off by the remaining drones turning their attention to her. She didn't have a chance as her armor was shredded by the drones. Completely demoralizing everyone to see one another of their leaders go down so quickly. At least now you didn't have to worry about the drones coming in and stealing your wounded.
One of Sierra's soldiers tried to drag her back anyway but her armor failed. Squad 2 was down to its last four members. This fight was nowhere near over.
"Shift fire! Take out those hunks of scrap!" You order getting up to try and boost morale and getting another shot for your troubles.
"I'm going to fucking kill em all! Who's with me!?" Amelia shouted standing up and firing her weapon wildly at the enemy. It was actually quite impressive, 3 bots were killed in short order. Then they returned fire and your platoon was left without any NCOs.
Second squad took it particularly harshly one of them jumping out of cover, her weapon fully automatic as she ran towards the machines in a rage. It went as well as a cavalry charge in the First World War back on old earth. She was left sprawling face first on the ground with her armor shredded.
The scouts and third squad had a pitiful performance, barely doing any damage to the machines that sought to enslave you all.
Instead of being demoralized by the loss of their squad leader. Your first squad followed her example, unleashing a torrent of fire on the enemies in front of you. Outright destroying 2 more. One of those caused a chain reaction and destroyed another pair of its comrades outright and finished off a wounded one.
The machines return fire targeted your light infantry for some reason. Knocking out two of them and damaging the armor of a third.
First squad was **** back into cover by the enemy focusing on them. One of them wasn't quick enough and found herself laying on top of her sergeant's prone form in the same state. They did manage to get a few hits on the enemy despite their hurried retreat.
Which was more than you could say for you scouts who were hunkering down to avoid fire that wasn't even coming for them.
Second and Third did better, destroying one bot each.
