The Experiment

"Ok. Do you take showers or baths?" Cole asks Jodie motioning towards the bathroom.

"I take baths. But... Could I take it alone? Pleaded Jodie, meekly.

"Nah. Sorry, Jodie, Nathan's orders. But, I could however, be in the next room." Cole ended with a smile, lifting Jodie's spirit.

Filling the bathtub, Cole caught sight of Jodie removing her nightgown, revealing a cloud and star patterned diaper, prompting him to remember to keep an eye out for 'night accidents'.

Jodie stepped in the tub, feeling the warm water cover her ankles. Sinking in, Jodie's chest meets the surface of the water. Cole thoroughly and gently cleans her with a bar of soap and a towel, as Jodie resists the urge to splash around. This place didn’t feel like home yet.

After drying off and getting dressed in her old clothes, worn the day before, Cole mentions that Nathan wants to see them. Seeing what is beyond her room for the first time, Jodie basically stayed right behind Cole, stepping where he steps, on the way to 'room 233' which like her room, has no windows.

Walking inside, there was a table with five cards lined up across it. Square, circle, cross sign, and wavy lines. The wall on the other side of the small room, was a huge mirror. Positioned by the left corner, stood a camera on a tripod.

"Hello Jodie, how's your day?" Nathan asks friendly.

"Kinda good." Jodie responds, getting chuckles from the Doctors, making her blush in embarrassment.

"Ok Jodie, if you would just sit down here, please." Cole held the office chair steady as Jodie sat on the seat getting comfortable.

"Alright, next step." Nathan handed Cole some sort of headgear. "Now, Jodie, this will allow your brain to talk to us." Said Cole, with a smile. "Will it hurt?" Asks Jodie, nervously. "You will feel a bit of pressure from these areas." Cole points to the sensors on the headgear. "Other than that, it's harmless, ok?" Jodie nods.

The two Doctors leave Jodie alone in the small room. A sudden beep coming from an overhead speaker, breaking the silence, makes Jodie jump a bit.

"Jodie? Cole's voice began. There's a Doctor in the neighboring room. She has the same cards as you. We're going to have her choose one, and you're gonna tell us what she chose. Sounds good? Jodie nodded in understanding. In the neighboring room sat Beth, a young woman, who is a college grad and now intern, working at the department. Although she is a short person, she feels that she doesn't need special help.
