Test it

I plugged the device in. It started to gently hum. I plugged in the headset and put it on. I aimed the satellite disc next door. "Ashley, you feel really bad about being a cold bitch to your neighbor. You will go next door, apologize, and offer to take him to dinner tonight to his favorite restaurant."

I shut the device off and took off the headset. I felt really silly. "Whatever," I said. I went down to the kitchen to get a soda when I heard the doorbell ring.

I went to the door and peeked through the peep hole, and saw Ashley. She had a look of confusion mixed with annoyance. I opened the door.

"Oh, hi, Jackson," she said. "I feel really bad about being a cold bitch to you this morning. Would like me to take you to your favorite restaurant tonight?"

"Wow, really?"

"Uh, yeah, I don't feel like cooking tonight, and you can introduce me to a good place to eat I guess." She seemed to be searching for an excuse to her behavior, and she seemed a bit unsure about what she was doing.

"That sounds great. My favorite place is a little hole-in-the-wall Chinese place," I said, my heart starting to race knowing that device worked.

"OK, I'll come by at 6." Ashley gave a fake smile, turned, and walked back next door.

I closed the door and leaned against it. "Holy fuck! That thing actually works!"
