Terms and Definitions (For those unfamiliar with VTM)

Vampire - also known as Kindred or Cainites, Vampires are undead creatures gifted with several supernatural abilities. The oldest origin myth for the vampires is that they all come from the Biblical Caine, cursed by both God and several angels after he was exiled from his home. Most vampires are part of either a clan or a bloodline.

Childe - The created offspring of a vampire.

Sire - The Vampiric parent of a Vampire

Vitae - The supernatural blood within a vampire. it is a mixture of all the vampire's victim's blood. Vampires use their vitae for many things, including: Healing wounds, creating a childe, amplifying physical abilities, and powering disciplines. when a Vampire uses vitae, it physically vanishes from the vampire.

clan - a vampire's clan/bloodline is essentially his blood-related family. Similar to how a child's features are determined by the genetic makeup of it's parents, a Vampire's clan is determined by the clan of his/her sire. A vampire's clan is set in stone and usually cannot be changed, with a few exceptions. all clans have a knack for specific supernatural abilities, but they also share a curse, known as the clan weakness.

Disciplines - Disciplines are supernatural abilities that a vampire can learn. Each clan has two - three disciplines indicative of their clan. Disciplines vary from making the vampire stronger to manipulating shadows, or even stopping time.

The Beast - All vampires are cursed with a dark side, often called The Beast. The Beast can be seen as instinct that has been amplified and gone awry. It has only three motivations: eat, sleep, and hunt. Most vampires are in a constant war over their bodies with their Beast.

The kiss - The act of a vampire feeding from a mortal. The act is pleasurable to both the vampire and it's victim. The pleasure is said to be far more erotic, sensual, and pleasurable than sex. As a result, most vampires simply see sex as a tool to capture and ensnare prey. The Kiss can be very addictive to mortals, and it is not unusual for mortals to give themselves freely and completely to vampires in exchange for receiving The Kiss. These willing mortals are often called blood dolls.

The Embrace - The act of siring a vampire. To do so, you must drain the potential Childe of all blood, usually by drinking it. After the Childe is dry, the Sire then places his/her own blood into the Childe. Thus, this creates a vampire.

Sect - Sects are groups of vampires who share a general ideology and goals. Don't be fooled, however, not everyone in the sect are friends and they won't think twice about using your misfortune as a springboard towards gaining more power. There are two major sects: The Camarilla and the Sabbat.

Diablerie - Also called Amaranth, is the process of a vampire feeding of another vampire until he is dry and then continuing to drink until the victim vampire's soul is consumed. This act has as much taboo to vampires as cannibalism has to mortals, and is one of the surefire ways to be hunted to the ends of the earth by many vampires. This act is so vile that it leaves a detectable and distinct stain on the vampire's already cursed soul.
