Take a closer look

As usual, curiosity has overtaken common sense. You pull the towel tightly around your hips and tiptoe closer to the bathroom door. You quietly nudge it halfway open and take a look inside.

To the right is a shower with a sliding glass door. Opposite the shower is a double sink and a commode. The bathroom is not large, but it's sparkling clean, making it look very neat and tidy. There aren't any windows, so it's pretty dark inside, illuminated thinly by the light entering from the door to Rebecca's room.

The door on the other side has a light-blue bath towel hanging on it and is mostly--but not all the way--closed. You see a shape pass in front of the crack in the door. There's definitely someone in there, you say. You hear a dresser drawer open.

As if drawn by a magnet, you step sideways through the half-open door and inch forward. Some quiet music turns on in the bedroom, and you take another step.

"OK, Sam," you hear Rebecca say from behind you as she opens the door to her own bedroom.
