Chapter 27 by Rhubarb Rhubarb

What should you do?

Take Ellie to the Nurse

Ellie needs to see a nurse. No argument. She resists, but in a terrified, non-resisting way. More a denial of your intentions than any attempt to flee or persuade you otherwise.

First you gather her books and the paper and return them to her bag. Then you help her to her feet. She sways as she stands, and for a moment she tips leaning on you. Her sleight weight makes you want to wrap your arms around her and protect her and hold her close. She’s not a tall girl. There’s little to her. You could lift her up and take her. No, your mind is descending into the gutter again. It’s the aroma of her soap and her shampoo washing away the general fustiness of the school. As soon as she realises she’s leaning against you, she pulls away; her large brown eyes growing wider at the realisation.

“Come on, let’s go to the nurse.”

She lets you guide her through the corridors. This school is a maze, and you only know the location of the nurse’s office from the map. Thankfully once Ellie resigns herself to the fact she’s going there, she leads the way. She only stutters when you pass other girls. All of them look at Ellie with smirks on their faces. All of them look at you knowingly.

The nurse’s office isn’t that hard to find. It’s in a separate building just behind the main one, a driveway leading to the main road. The main glass doors have a big, red cross painted on them. Through those doors is an empty reception area, a counter to one side, several chairs against a wall, first aid posters plastered up, a pop tune blasting from the open doorway behind the counter.

“Hello,” you shout as you guide Ellie inside.

The response is a heart shaped face framed by long black hair appearing in that open doorway. Hazel eyes catch sight of you and sparkle.

“Hello, one moment. What’s the problem.” The woman who follows the face is of average height and dressed in a nurse’s uniform. You’d guess she can’t be much older than you. You’ve seen her in the teachers’ lounge but haven’t spoken to her. She’s very recognisable, not just because of the nurse’s uniform, but mainly because of her large breasts and large ass that struggle to be confined by the uniform.

“You the nurse,” you ask rather redundantly.

A big smile crosses her face. “What gave that away. You must be the new teacher, John Smith? Am I right?” You nod. “And I’m the nurse. Karlee. Now how can I help you.”

“Ellie here fell down the stairs. I think someone should look her over.” You gesture to where Ellie has slunk up against the wall, drawing her bag to her chest, as if hoping the bag would hide her.

The hazel eyes catch Ellie, and Nurse Karlee sighs. “Ellie, you’ve fallen down the stairs again? Are you sure that’s what happened?” A long pause before Ellie nods. Then Nurse Karlee turns to you. “Is that what happened?”

“That’s what she says. I just heard the fall, and when I got there, she was at the bottom of the stairs.”

Nurse Karlee nods. “Right, you know the drill. Go through the door and lie down. I’ll be there is a moment to check you over.”

“I’m fine,” Ellie insists, which just gets a disparaging look from Nurse Karlee.

“We’re having a look. You go in there and wait. I just need to talk to Mr Smith.”

Nurse Karlee points to a door. Ellie’s movement to it and through it is **** but she goes. Only when the door is shut behind her does Karlee drop the smile and turn her attention back to you.

“She fell down the stairs?”

“That’s what she says.”

“You didn’t catch who helped her fall down them did you?”

“Unfortunately, not enough to identify them. I couldn’t chase them. I had to check on Ellie.”

A nod. “Yes, it’s good that you did. By the end of last year that girl was all bruises, but she still won’t tell us who’s doing it. Claims to be clumsy, but no girl’s that clumsy. The only upside is that she’s learnt how to fall. This tumble probably won’t be a problem, but sooner or later she won’t be so lucky. She needs a guardian to protect her, because she won’t protect herself.”

“Don’t we have any idea who’s doing it?”

“Most of the school. Ellie won’t tell, and the girls have realised that. So anyone having a bad day can make themselves feel better by making Ellie’s day worse. Oh, there’s a couple of prime candidates, but unless you can catch them in the act, Dr Stricture ain’t doing anything about it.”

“Why not?”

Karlee shrugs, and her whole bosom shakes when she does so. Her nurse’s uniform is really doing wonders keeping it in line.

“Half the teachers are living in the past, when hazing and low-grade bullying was deemed character building, and all that nonsense. If the girl won’t stand up for herself, they don’t see why they should stand up for her. And then there’s the money factor. Girls from rich and powerful families get more leeway than girls from poorer families. And from what I can gather Ellie’s bullies are from the richest and most powerful families in town, families you don’t cross for a little bit of bullying. While Ellie, well I gather she got a scholarship principally because her sisters came to the school, and both ended up head girl.”

“The school shouldn’t accept any bullying.”

“I like your attitude. And I agree. But the girls who are doing it, you’ll need incontrovertible evidence before you start throwing out accusations. And you’ll not get it from Ellie.”

“I’ll keep my eyes out for her.”

“Please do. We must protect Ellie, because she won’t protect herself.”
