Chapter 4
What do they talk about?
Susan is fascinated by the twins
Evidently, Troy had more history with these girls than she'd initially anticipated. When she finally rejoined them, their conversation had already progressed beyond the point where she felt comfortable jumping it. As expected, Caroline drove the majority of it, her boisterous persona taking centerfold in the conversation. While Troy followed along, the twins kept mostly to themselves, occasionally chiming in when they felt necessary.
Standing quietly next to her friends, Susan took the time to more closely examine the Amerasian girls. She'd also been fascinated by twins, and already she could tell that these two were identical. At a quick glance, she found very little, if anything, she could use to distinguish them. They were both on the shorter side, with identically-combed long black hair. Their features were stereotypically Asian, although it was evident by their eyes that they weren't entirely Japanese. It was also crystal clear that they'd grown in the states by the evident lack of accent.
Still, out of all the twins she'd examined, they were the hardest to differentiate.
"Never seen twins before Susan?" Troy chided while elbowing her ribs, bringing her back to reality. At his question, she blushed; both at having been caught staring and at being **** to reveal her secret.
"Sorry." She apologized, unable to meet either of Mina or Sana's eyes. "No.... I haven't. This is a first for me." She admitted sheepishly, doing her best to resist the blush that was trying to creep up her face.
Her admission brought a chuckle out of the pair, the twins exchanging a knowing smirk. "It's fine." "We get that a lot." Their tones indicated this was a common thing.
Their sincerity calmed her as she lost her battle against her blush. She spared a moment to look over at Troy, but both he and Caroline had gone silent, the duo evidently enjoying the moment. Still embarrassed, Susan turned back to the half-Asian girls. "I've always been fascinated by twins." She attempted to explain, finally looking up at the two. "I have an older brother, but we were never close, so I've always wondered what it was like to have an authentic friendship with a sibling. Having a twin seems like it would be so much better. With you being so close and all." She realized she was starting to ramble and caught herself, looking away. "Um... Is it alright if I ask you a few questions?"
The twins shared another side-glance, their smiles indicating they were enjoying Susan's discomfort. "Sure!" One of them said. "Ask away!" The other urged her on.
"Ahh..." Susan swallowed nervously, disbelieving that they'd agreed. "Okay. Um... Are you two identical twins?"
"Yep!" They said instantaneously, the suddenly catching Susan off guard. "Identical down to the birthmarks." The one on the left chimed in, grinning while her sister nodded along.
"Do you... share everything? Ahh, sorry." She caught herself, looking away. "I'm asking very stereotypical questions, I know."
The pair seemed unperturbed however, looking at one another, lost in the own little inside joke. "It's fine." The one of the right said, her sister following up as soon as she finished. "And we do, in fact, share everything."
At the admission the two girls started giggling to themselves, the sound strangely synchronous for one that was coming from two sources. It was so eerie that Susan almost believed that they'd practiced it in advance just to make fun of her.
Her face must of said something, because Caroline quickly cleared everything up. "They mean that literally. They really do share everything."
"Wha-" Susan began, turning to the redhead. That's when she noticed it.
She wasn't sure how she missed it but, now that she was looking for it, it was obvious that the girls shared. A lot. Not only were they sitting on the same chair, one girl each taking half the seat, but they wore the same outfit, same hair braid, worked on the same laptop... Even their jewelry was identical.
However, it didn't stop there. What she thought before was a practice giggle that they both emitted was actually the same sound coming from two different people. And when they spoke, it was like two people were speaking one single sentence.
"She's right, we share..." "...literally everything. Clothes, rooms..." "...beds and baths." "Everything you can think of..." "...we share it somehow." "Even our minds..." "...are connected. I think..." ...what she thinks. I feel..." "...what she feels. We are one..." "... but separate."
Susan tried, but there was no way to tell when one twin ended and the other began. The sentences were fluid, shifting equally from one body to the next. It was like she was hearing in stereo.
Her confusion must have been plastered across her face even more so than before because Caroline took it upon herself to provide a demonstration. "Watch this!" she said, jumping up to flick one of the twins across her forehead.
And Susan watched as both girls recoiled back at the sudden pain, both of them yelling "Hey! That hurt!" while rubbing their heads, sending an identical glare at Caroline.
How does it continue?
