Steal somebody else's story

Amanda shows you to your desk out in the bullpen, where you're seated next to a middle-aged man in glasses. You introduce yourself and find out that he's George McDonald, one of the Tribune's top investigative reporters. Using your mind control ring, you find out that he's finishing up a story about an underground crime syndicate that has been running the crime world in New York. George has kept his story under wraps for a long time, and even Laura doesn't know about it, so you convince him to change the authorship to your name and then erase any memory of it from his mind.

It's not even noon and you've done enough work for that day, so you decide to go out and do more good deeds with your magical powers, only returning to the office around 6pm when it's starting to get dark outside.

You print out George's story with your name on it and march into Laura's office. Amanda is inside taking notes while Laura dictated a letter to her. Both women look up when you enter, and Amanda smiles warmly.

"Can I help you?" Laura asks coldly.

"No, but maybe I can help you," you say as you approach her desk and hand her the story.

Warily, she takes it from your hands and starts to read it. You sit down in the chair next to Amanda's and wait.

"Should I leave?" Amanda asks.

"Yes," Laura replies, still scanning your story with her eyes. The door closes behind the assistant.

After what seemed like ten minutes, Laura looks up with a surprised look. "How did you do this? This would have taken months to research and develop. Were you working on this previously?"

"Don't worry about my methods. Do you want the story?"

"Of course. This is huge. Every newspaper and news station will be chasing our report. What about the mastermind? If we publish this article under your name, he might come after you."

You had no idea what Laura was talking about. Maybe you should have read the story first before turning it in. You're not sure what danger the crime boss might pose, but nobody knew about the mansion and you had your magic rings.

"Sure. Why not? The most important thing is telling the story!"

Laura nods. There's newfound admiration and appreciation for you in her eyes. "Good. We'll run this story on Friday morning so people will be talking about it on the weekend. This is good work, take the rest of the week off! And feel free to use Amanda if you want to."

"Cool, thanks," you say and get up to leave the office.
