Chapter 4
by ReaperofBalance
So time to invade the game worlds, what's first?
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1
KotOR was a great point to join in since having the advanced mechanical knowledge, weapons, piloting, languages, tech, and the **** would be a massive boon. Marcus was all for having some powers to go with his editing so he didn't HAVE to edit every time he wanted something to happen.
Having the Affect/Dominate Mind aka the Mind Trick would allow him to change quite a few things without needing an edit, especially if he bolstered himself in the **** and using powers with the Editing power.
So jumping in, he had to set up his "avatar" for this world, which unlike say Saints Row, he had to get his stats built up.
The first choice was class (normally gender too, but Marcus had no intention of changing sex) and he had three to choose from (with three more to choose from later when he "became" a Jedi).
Soldier: The combat class, who got a minimum of 7 more feats to gain than the other two classes (Soldier getting a total of 18) and had the Power Strike and Power Shot feats to start (-3 chance to hit but +5-10 extra damage if you did hit). It also gained automatic use of all three armor classes and proficiency in every weapon except Lightsabers (which you gained once you became a Jedi in the game). While useful, having a proficiency with Heavy weapons wasn't that useful since by the time you can get one, you're a Jedi and have a lightsaber and you didn't get skill points really.
Scout: The middle class in that it got useful skills, medium skill points, two armor proficiencies, got the flurry and rapid shot feats (one extra attack per round at the cost of -4, -2, and then -1 defense and attack for each rank), automatically got the implant feats, and had the unique feat of uncanny dodge (it removes the stealth/surprise attack bonus of an opponent if they ambushed you). However, the scout only got 11 Feats, but if the player liked the implants, flurry and rapid shot feat trios (all of which could be gained through feat points), and the unique feat of uncanny dodge over say the heavy weapon, power attack and shot trio feats, and armor sets, then they essentially were saving at least 6 feats to pick meaning that Solider only got one more feat than them. Plus, Scouts were guaranteed at least 2 more skill points during initial creation and every level up than the soldier and had more class based skills (you only have to spend 1 skill point on a class skill but have to use 2 points for a non-class skill [and non-class skills couldn't go higher than your level number while class skills could go to your level number +3. Meaning a level 1 scout could have 4 points in Computer use but only put 1 in Persuade, Security, or Stealth at start]). So not getting 1 feat to get more skill points was worth it if you liked the implants, flurry/rapid fire, and dodge feats.
Scoundrel: The... hand holding class since it was the only one with Persuade as a natural skill and you can do a LOT with the persuade skill. It only got 8 feats, but it got the most skill points at creation and each level. Part of the appeal was that it got a unique feat called "Scoundrel's Luck" which added an automatic +2 to defense each feat rank and it was given automatically meaning you didn't have to spend feats on it. They also started with the critical strike and sniper shot feat (which got a better chance to hit based on the Intelligence bonus [which also added to skill point total]) that made it more likely to get a critical hit and possibly stun the opponent (assuming they weren't immune), but you had a -5 to your defense until the next attack you performed.
All of them had positives and negatives and each could give a unique playthrough (mostly because you had to adapt to not succeeding at Persuasion to get more money, intimidate, or get things to go your way more) so he did the smart thing... He cheated.
A quick edit, that gave him a small headache, but also noticed something helping him (likely the **** since him jumping in would help ensure it's will was done without a constraint but he was fine with that so long as he got to do what he wanted to do too) and it dulled the pain. Thus he was a soldier, scout scoundrel, which was a bit of an insult that a scout wasn't a soldier and should have named it the engineer class or something since it focused on computers, repair, demolitions, and being aware of things.
Anyway, with his new class (one that he was calling the Black Ops class since real Black Ops soldiers did all of the shit the three classes did) he was now ready to move into attributes.
Now, he got 30 attribute points for being a "new" character. However, thanks to his edits and training on Earth, he was already bolstered on those.
Strength: 40
Dexterity: 45
Constitution: 80
Intelligence: 50
Wisdom: 40
Charisma: 45
This was good since in the base game, a 43 score (meaning a +16 modifier) was the highest you could get without hacking the game or using mods however you could only get a natural +10 modifier through attribute points, the rest you had to get from equipment and buffs from powers and stimulants.
So, right now for strength: he was sitting at a +15 to melee combat items (A score of 10 is the base level to have a -/+ 0 so every two points after is a +1 to the stat [30/2=15]) such as chance to hit, damage with melee weapons, chance to hit with lightsaber [if greater than or equal to Dexterity modifier) and the odds of landing a critical strike.
For Dexterity: +17 to ranged combat, Lightsaber combat (when greater than the strength modifier), stealth, reflex saves, and to defense, though armor could restrict the amount of bonus you could actually receive.
For Constitution: +35 to vitality points gained per level and fortitude saves.
For Intelligence: +20 to how many skill points he got at start and each level up, how well using a repair kit on a droid went, the difficulty of using the "Sniper Shot" feat/attack, and bonuses to Computer Usage, Repair, and Demolitions. So right now he was sitting anywhere from 84-96 points to spend on skills after he set up his attributes if he didn't add to his intelligence and would get 11-14 each following level up.
For Wisdom +15 to difficulty in hitting with **** Powers, how many **** Points (really how much power in the ****) you had and gained each level, your will saves, how much you healed with Cure/Heal and Medpacs, and bonuses to Awareness, Security, and Treat Injury skills. So at the moment he got an extra 30 **** Points each level and the regeneration was at least 10 points a second when outside of combat.
For Charisma: +17 to **** power difficult (adjusting for if you were light sided and were using Dark sided powers), **** Points per level, bonus to Persuasion, and how much you healed with Cure/Heal (those two powers having bonuses to it based on Charisma and Wisdom).
So now he needed to boost his attributes, though he knew that he couldn't add more than 8 points before he has to use 2 points to boost an attribute by 1... unless if he edited this. Though did he want to?
He was technically already free of the limitations just in his bonuses; and he did a quick check of himself using his editor to make sure of that and yes, he was going to get the full bonuses from his attributes regardless of the game's "rules" and as such he was free of this one on limiting his attribute additions.
After some contemplation, he decided to equalize his attributes (and mentally telling himself that'd he not just keep jumping out of the game and going back in over and over to make his attributes basically infinite since that would take away some of the fun) and pushed his Strength, Dexterity, Wisdom, and Charisma to 50 making them give +20 modifiers.
Now that brought him to skills, since he took HIS class, he could use all the skills, though he also could have just gone to KotOR 2 and then used the feat options there to turn skills into class skills, but he wanted the unique bonuses from them all.
As for the skills they were:
Computer: Using, splicing/hacking, bypassing, upgrading, and repairing computers and determined how many Computer Spikes (Disposable Logic Rams) you needed to do various actions, but you couldn't go under 1 spike for actions (that could change with a massive bonus to it though).
Demolitions: The usage, disabling, and recovery of mines for this (Marcus never understood why it didn't affect Grenade damage). Minor mines have a Difficulty Class (DC) of 15 to set (meaning your D20 roll plus your skill in Demolitions has to be at least 15 to set it), Average had a DC of 20, and Deadly had a DC of 25 to set. Enemy/Hazardous mines can be disabled (meaning you just deactivate them) and they have a DC of 20, 25, and 40 respectfully. To recover hostile mines, you have a DC of 30, 35, and 40. Naturally on disabling or recovering, you could critically fail and blow yourself up with the mine. You can recover or deactivate friendly mines with no difficulty at all. It was worth deactivating if you couldn't recover them since you got 15, 20, and 30 EXP for disabling the mines based on difficulty and got 20, 40, and 60 EXP for recovering them, plus recovering them means you can sell them for extra credits if you never use them (they had a LOT more uses in KotOR 2).
Stealth: How easily you can sneak by people if you have a specialized piece of gear equipped. To be detected, they have to succeed an Awareness check against your Stealth skill.
Awareness: Was the act of noticing hidden things around you whether enemies or objects cloaked or to notice mines before you step on them. Moving at a rapid pace, meaning running, gave you a -5 to Awareness checks (which are constant and always being done) so moving at a slower pace can be good. HOWEVER, it was a believed thing that Awareness could also affect how much loot you found (much like Detect Hidden in Kingdom's of Amalur or in other DnD based games). This was later confirmed not to be the case (Marcus fucking hated that since Awareness would have been one of the greatest skills if it was) but Marcus was going to make it more valuable by having it actually help you find more loot.
Persuade: Gave you unique options with people to convince them to tell you something, do something you wanted, or give you something. However, in the base game a skill of 26 (base and modifiers together) meant 100% success (not counting a couple instances where you had a 100% chance of failure [Looking at you Ajuur and you not giving more than 10% of the arena bets on Taris]). However, Marcus would be doing a LOT more persuading on things than the game usually did (both for fun and for "FUN") so it couldn't hurt to boost it some more just to be safe, it would give another option beyond just editing people to do whatever he fucking wanted though he'd still use his original power.
Repair: Was basically an alternate version of computers as you needed a set number of parts to fix up various droids scattered everywhere and let them be of use to you (usually being an extra attacker against enemies but sometimes they opened new areas or healed you). Like with computers, the more points you had the less parts you had to use to a minimum of using 1 for each repair. However, it also affected how much health was restored to a droid party member when using a repair kit, advanced repair kit, or construction kit on them. It and computer could also be used to upgrade your droids over the course of the game.
Security: Is just a means of opening various doors and containers that are locked (KotOR 2 added the option of bashing them open) and nothing else... literally. It affected nothing else than opening certain doors and containers, though most of the time YOU yourself didn't need security especially since your first true companion has it and then before you're off the extended tutorial world, you have a droid that was an expert in it and thus you don't need to put points in anymore.
Treat Injury: Is a skill that people invested in even if it wasn't a class skill since it affected how much a Medpack healed you and only you (Kotor 2 let you heal others, but Treat Injury was only useful on yourself and no one else in 1). If you wanted to heal others, you had to learn Cure/Heal to do so.
As it stood he had these bonuses in each one while having 100 points to put in, but he had points in some of them already from what he studied and learned on earth.
Computer: 5 +20 (intelligence)
Demolitions: 5 +20 (intelligence)
Stealth: 5 +20 (Dexterity)
Awareness: 15 +20 (Wisdom)
Persuade: 15 +20 (Charisma)
Repair: 5 +20 (intelligence)
Security: 5 +20 (Wisdom)
Treat Injury: 10 +20 (Wisdom)
He had reasonably low scores at the moment due a simple fact that how computers, explosives, and all that shit in Star Wars didn't act like how they did on Earth, meaning he could probably figure SOME shit out, but nowhere near enough to have any real mastery. Things like Persuade and Awareness were going to be good for him regardless, it was him and he could pay attention and talk, and Treat Injury had applications regardless of things since he could understand how to fix wounds and such, but that skill also applied to knowing how the medical items worked.
Now normally, he'd only be allowed 4 points to spend into each category (thereby leaving him with 68 points still) but he wasn't having that shit. Especially since his level bonus would be stacking on that so he'd have a shit ton of skill points going to waste (though he could keep them and see about using them in a different game that had skills but still.)
So now he needed to figure out what he wanted to boost with his 100 points.
Eventually he decided on 15 to Computer and Demolition. 10 to Stealth, Awareness, Persuade, Security, and Treat Injury. Then 20 to Repair. Thus, it looked like this:
Computer: 20 +20 (intelligence)
Demolitions: 20 +20 (intelligence)
Stealth: 15 +20 (Dexterity)
Awareness: 25 +20 (Wisdom)
Persuade: 25 +20 (Charisma)
Repair: 25 +20 (intelligence)
Security: 15 +20 (Wisdom)
Treat Injury: 20 +20 (Wisdom)
He wanted all his skills boosted, but Stealth and Security weren't going to help a lot right now so he left them lower. Repair got the biggest boost since you may have two or three options on Computer that you could do all of, Repair had anywhere from 2-7 that you could do and sometimes getting parts was hard or expensive, so he decided to just cut it down now rather than later.
Now we moved onto feats.
Due to his unique class, he had light and medium armor, he'd gain heavy armor in quite a few levels.
Proficiency in all weapons, he'd still have to spend points for focus and mastery with them.
Level 1 implants, he'd have to unlock them himself or gain quite a few levels to auto unlock.
Uncanny Dodge.
Scoundrel's Luck.
Sneak Attack.
The first tier of Critical Attack, Critical Shot, Power Attack, Power Shot, Flurry, and Rapid Shot.
Everything else he had to unlock himself.
He had two Feat points to use and began looking through.
He bypassed any feats that added to skills since they were good for now, he needed to add to combat prowess. He couldn't gain the heavy armor, implant level 2, weapon specialization, or any of the unique attacks next stage since he needed more levels to do so.
With that narrowing the field a SHIT LOAD, he took level 1 Toughness giving him an extra vitality point each level, and Dueling, which gave him a +1 attack and defense when he was using a single hand weapon and wasn't duel wielding.
After confirming everything, he launched himself into the game, idly noting that he'd make sure Revan was a woman to add another sexy lady to the group before he started "recruiting" and getting any hot women he took a fancy too.
Time to end up in a Galaxy Far Far Away.
Wake up on the Endar Spire?
