Chapter 18 by TheArchitect TheArchitect

Three ways to go.

Staircase.

Throughout Jen's descent, the snaps in her chained anklets were becoming slower and slower, until the next one never occurred.

"Ahh, so they wanted me to go to the bar. For some reason." — Jen threw a glance back at the stairs she just passed. — "They must know it's my weakness. They must know it could succeed in making me stay. It has to be worth something."

The girl went away from the staircase. This passage led her into a round room with a hemispheric ceiling, with four more doorless ways out of it. Undistracted by natural light coming from above, Jen noticed the door, too. There was only one, but the "EXIT" sign above it made it a big deal.

The display near the knob was saying "3/0" in red numbers.

"So I can't take anything with me? Makes sense. I believe it now, this is the real exit." — She meekly tried to open the door as it was just in case, but it stayed closed, confirming that she interpreted the rules correctly. — "But if I'm required to get all of my keys and get these things off, how do I locate them?"

As she was stepping back from the door, there was another

*SNAP*

But this time, in her belt. She almost forgot it was still on as well.

"That's what it is? Why did I not think of it before? That means I already know where two of the keys are! Kind of." — the realization that the escape was closer than she thought gave her an immediate energy boost. Jen momentarily dashed back to the staircase, but then stepped right back towards the direction of the second snap. She really wanted to split in two for this one, but one of the keys had to be the first, and the other one — second.

Which key to go after?
