Split up and search for clues

"Let's take a look around," you order. "See if we can't find some evidence of what happened here. Uhura, you get that comm system up. Spock, you and Sulu go through the data banks, figure out what they were working on here and if that has anything to do with their disappearance. The rest of you, search the station."

You head down to engineering. "If you don't mind I'd like to come with you," Verity says. "I've gotten gotten stuck with being in charge of these girls, and not knowing what's going on or what to tell them has been driving me batty."

"Alright," you say. "Just don't touch anything."

The feel of her breast pressed against your arm as she clings to you tells you that she considers "anything" and "anyone" separate categories, but you don't really object too strongly at this point. It's somewhat distracting as you spend the next half hour in a fruitless search for evidence of the missing crew's fate, but a pleasant sort of distraction. And after all, there's no immediate danger -- no unusual power readings, and the T&A girls were the only life forms who registered on Spock's scans...

...which begs the question: if all life-forms are accounted for, what's that noise coming from the room ahead of you?
