Chapter 8

Do you search for the blade or rush to your sisters?
Sneak and Observe
Rushing to the fight, armed with only a knife is a lost cause to begin with, unless if you're were to plan on escaping which is not the case. You decide to sneak around the fight and search for the sacred sword. Hopefully with the goddess watching over you, you can implement speed and stealth to rush to a safe spot unnoticed.
The demons are focused on your sisters and their back are turned to you. Now is the time to move.
You crouch and pad along the windows to get to the other side of the great hall. Keeping a keen eye on the battle, you fail to notice a hand emerge from the window to your left and suddenly grab your wrist!
Turning to your captor, you see a grotesque crimson beast that resembles a horned bull. He seems to be grinning, excited to capture his first victim. He pulls you closer as you struggle not to fall. However before he manages to snatch your other arm you sink your hidden weapon into the flesh of his wrist.
He growls in pain as he yanks his hand back. You seize your opportunity and push him off the ledge of the window. The sounds of the battle largely drowns his cry of agony.
Not caring to see the demon fall to his doom you turn around, fearful of the possibility of being discovered.
You sigh in relief to see the War Mother and her apprentices engage their enemies more fiercely to cover you. There might be hope for you yet. Their help spurs you on to continue your search.
You finally reach around and hide behind the altar of saint Magdalena. Its holy frame should cover your figure. Peering around, you see a group of three nasty imps busy painting a crude pentagram over the tapestry of St. Magdalena battling the she-demon Hecata. The fact that they're using the blood of a familiar fallen sister makes yours boil in rage! Had the situation been in your favor, you would have cut them down without hesitation. You already have a difficult time lingering here while your dear sister is being defiled like so...but you eventually calm yourself and try to see what they are painting.
The runes make you feel queasy as you wonder why the imps would waste time with such trivialities before shaking your head and reminding yourself that you should focus on more important matters. Namely, your self-imposed task.
You focus on your surroundings. A rubble of tossed dishware gather around the demon's feet. The demons wield under-developed and improvised weaponry. Mostly clubs and maces and the occasional axes here and there. Nothing even close to a holy relic.
You're afraid to admit to an unfavorable possibility. The War Mother MIGHT have already retrieved and given the sword to someone to get it out of the demons' reach. In that case your search is merely a waste of time. However you do have a better chance of joining your sisters from this angle, as being discovered while dashing to your allies will have you set on by one side. The other side being blocked off by a wall.
Still, you must search as long as there is still a chance...The environment does make you less optimistic, though. There is nothing around other than blood and shattered glass and...a piece of cloth that doesn't seem like it belongs on the ground...and a shimmer of silver...
You silently gasp as sudden realisation hits you. Your prayers have been answered! The cloth wraps around and hides almost all of it. But a gap lets you see a part of the silver engraved hilt. You instantly recognise it as the Holy Relic!
You feel jumpy just by looking at it. You want to lung forward and protect it from the demonic presence. It is very ****, being so close to them indeed but that also means a rush would have you out in the open and there is no chance that they wouldn't be able to see you then.
What should you do then? Do you fight along your sisters or run in hopes of finding another escape out of the abbey? Perhaps you should plan ahead and cause a remote diversion first...
There isn't much time and sisters seem like they want to pull back and fight in a more closed-off environment where the demons' numbers will be less efficient. That would be good and bad for you. Regrouping with your sisters will be close to impossible but they would be pulled away from the hallway making a tactical retreat more easy for you.
What is your plan?
