Shepard can come out of the AI Core, but she'll remain under supervision.

"Okay... Shepard." Ashley began, for former Commander and friend's name not coming easily this time. "I'm going to let you out, but not without taking a few precautions."

"Take your time." Shepard joked. "For once, I'm actually not getting any older." She had waited months to return to the Normandy. She could wait a few hours longer.

Ashley had a couple of her best engineers put their heads together with EDI to design an inhibitor system. Comprised of a series of chips, fitted on a band around Shepard's neck, they introduced programming that would prevent her from transferring her consciousness out of EDI's body, accessing the extranet, disobeying an order from a crew member or picking up and using any form of weapon.

"Great. I just became a protocol droid." Shepard said. She was pleased to discover the infiltration platform was capable of rolling it's eyes.

"A very fetching protocol droid, dear." Samantha insisted, hugging Shepard.

"This isn't permanent, Shepard." Ashley said. "Once you've proved you can be trusted, we can remove the inhibitors."

"That can't come soon enough. It's been too long since I've taken out some Cerberus goons." Shepard responded.

"We're mostly putting down pirates these days. They don't offer the same level of fight Cerberus did, but it has to be done." Ashley informed her old commander.

"So what happens now?" Shepard asked, following Ashley up to the CIC. Just as in life, she couldn't help but admire how good Commander Williams looked in her uniform as she followed close behind her.

"We need to tell Admiral Hackett about you. He can make the final verdict."

Ashley headed off to try and get in contact with the Admiral. You had no idea where in the galaxy you were. It could be a while until she got in touch with him.

Meanwhile, Traynor was to return to her post, leaving you to your own devices.

"Come see me after my shift." Traynor asked. "Maybe we can get you cleaned up."

With something to look forward to, you began to walk the ship, exploring it in your new body.
