Chapter 6 by gca731
What does she do next?
She wants you to WHAT?!
"Take me!" You **** on air.
.....Huh?
HUH?!
"Wait, wha---uh, I meant 'Hah hah hah, it seems that no one can stand before my sheer might! Come back when you are--'"
"Drop the act, dude. I know you're sentient." Hesitating at that statement, you pause and look at her as if she had a second head.
"Wait, really?"
"No, but thanks for letting me know. Mind getting rid of the mask, by the way?"
OK, you didn't like this chick. "Hell no, the mask stays on." Anna pouts at that statement, and sighs.
"Nevermind, back to the topic at hand. Please, make me your apprentice!" She bows once again, her head actually hitting the floor...and breaking the floor in half. You could only stare at the sight while she grovels at your feet....metaphorically, you think.
"....And why should I?" you ask. Knowing the players you've run into, they would either backstab you later, or just outright kill you. Looking at Anna's position, though, it seems like you can't see any ill will, or bloodlust.
Holy shit. She was serious about this. You start to think about how you could spread the Higo sword style, finally getting your apparently "ancient" sword style spread all over the game, and look at Anna, still bowing and facing you. Your wing suddenly throbs, and you gently grab it, remembering the fight with her. A little pissed at her, an evil idea pops up in your mind while you think of a way to get your ****.. You grin evilly.
"...You haven't proven yourself to be worthy." You say, and she looks up in confusion. You were saying a PARTIAL truth, since she hadn't passed the Trial of Providence, which you took in order to even LOOK at your teacher's lessons. Originally a dummied quest that allowed people to learn the Higo sword style, it somehow got assimilated into your database while you were being uploaded into the game. It was fairly easy, requiring three full days of complete meditation. The catch? It was three FULL days of meditation, so no peeing, eating, sleeping, etc. Just....becoming one with nature. She didn't seem patient enough to do such a thing. Besides....that wasn't what you were going to give her, anyways.
"W-What do you mean?" She asks, and you look her in the eye, and muster up a tone as serious as can be.
"You haven't passed the Amanojaku's Trials. Not yet, at least." You grinned evilly as she perks up at this.
Oh yeah. You were going to have SO much fun with her.
Game Lore: On "The Trial of Providence"
A dummied quest that you could get should you somehow manage to impress Ajari, it allowed you to learn the Higo stances, an ancient sword style that flourished in ancient Japan. Gaining such stances would require peace of mind, unit, patience, and a LOT of fucking tries to complete.
The goal of the quest was simple. Leave your account alone after starting the quest for three full says straight, no interactions whatsoever. The only problem was that most players loved playing "World" so much, that they would quit after 5 HOURS. Even the developers of the game weren't able to accomplish such a feat, so it was dummied, tossed into a corner and forgotten until it was accidentally added to a certain field boss's database by ways of an incompetent intern, a lazy supervisor, and LOTS of beer.
Dammit, Barb.
What's the first "trial"?

Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
