She lets you go

Chapter 8 by hambo hambo

The troll takes your possessions with a smile, and gestures for Hilda to pass.

"It's a pleasure doing business with you," she says in atone dripping with sarcasm.

The knight grumbles several obscenities under her breath as she walks away. The ground feels much less pleasant under her feet now that she's going barefoot.

Hilda continues on her way, cursing her bad luck.

"At least things can't get any worse," she mutters out loud.

Naturally, as soon as the words escape her lips fate decides to prove her wrong. The previously sunny day quickly becomes cloudy, and soon a torrential rainstorm begins.

She sighs in a mixture of frustration and defeat and continues to trudge along the road, hoping it will soon pass.

Unfortunately for her, the rain doesn't let up, and the road is quickly transformed into a muddy mess. Her feet are soon sinking into the muck, and when she sees the first few bolts of lightning in the sky, she wiselys decide to get off the road and seek shelter nearby.
